Hello,
please help me answer the technical Q (cannot find it in FAQ/ther topics here):

I have MB - ASROCK b550 steel legend

I want to upgrade my M.2 (NVMe) SSD Samsung from "970 pro 512GB" to "990 Pro 2TB", but 990 pro is not listed in support storage QVL page for this MB (nor anything over 512 GB from Samsung and moreover nothing from samsung on PCIe4 x4), so the actual Q is:
Is it compatible with PCIe4/PCIe3) on this MB, will it work?

I have the v3.40 - 2024/1/22 BIOS.

Thanx a lot for any info.

Hello!

The specs of your motherboard specify support for:
1 Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4 x4), 1 M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x2 & SATA3).

So, with other words, if you put an M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 drive in your system, make sure that you are using it in the slot labeled as "M2_1".

The fact that the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB isn't listed in the QVL, means nothing.
The vendor won't test every single drive that's out there!
So, it's fine.
It will work.

I hope this helps...

Thanx, of course it helps, I thought so myself, but I am not sure and I need to confirm before spending any money (to avoid returning incompatible piece). IMAO Samsung 990 pro is very popular and high ranked ssd, so my thoughts are that they could QVL test at least most popular/ranked ones.

Of course I was going to put it in Hyper M.2_1 (PCIe Gen4 x4) slot.

What with my old nvme ssd? Can I put it in M.2_2 (PCIe Gen3 x2) instead? (If I understand it correctly, it would work, but I need to say goodbye to SATAIII 5 and 6 ports as they share lanes). I hope it wont affect my graphics card lanes.

Please confirm, thanx a lot for an additional info.

Hi!

Yes, you can put your old SSD in the M.2_2 slot.

The graphics card won't be affected.

One suggestion, from me:
I'd buy the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB (if the budget allows that).
It's not only bigger, but it also has a larger DRAM cache, which will translate into longer speed bursts.
