Hi,

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Pro3
Processor: G3258
RAM: DDR3 2400 8GB
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB
Graphics: Radeon R7 240 2GB
Power: EVGA Supernova 550 GS (550W)

I have just built this system. Initially, it booted fine and I installed Windows 10, but the BIOS regularly "forgot" the current date/time (battery?). I shut the system down earlier today and now it won't boot up at all: no POST, no BIOS screen only 4 short beeps. The system has power as the CPU and chassis fans are spinning.

I have removed to motherboard from the chassis and disconnected everything but the CPU and fan. Powering this on gives 4 short beeps.

-Alternative power supply: 4 short beeps
-Adding 1 stick of RAM (tried all 4 sockets): 4 short beeps
-Adding graphics card + 1 stick of RAM: 4 short beeps
-Adding graphcis card + 2 sticks of RAM (A2/B2): 4 short beeps

I have sent the information to ASRock Technical Support also, but any help here would also be appreciated.

Thanks
Colin

Try Clearing CMOS following this method. 4 short beeps indicates a problem with the system timer which could be either the battery or more likely corrupt date and time settings.

Hi Xalter,

Thanks for your suggestion. I followed the instructions and tried first the 10 minute option, no change, same 4 short beeps. I then tried with the 4 hour option, but still nothing changed.

I am still at a loss as to what is wrong and, failing any other suggestions, I'll just have to return the board to Newegg as faulty.

Colin
