    Posted: 27 Jul 2024 at 12:23pm
Hello All,

I'm currently acquiring parts for a new PC build. I am planning to get the X670E Steel Legend mobo and the 7800X3D proc. What's the highest capacity and fastest RAM I can get? I'm thinking at least 6000 and not less then 64GB but I don't know if it's doable, would 2x48GB work? With that in mind and based on your experiences, what's the best combination to get?
Any links for the exact kits are appreciated.

Thanks

what are you going to use the system for?

32gb is plenty for desktop windows gaming

I run windows vm in linux with GPU passthrough sometimes for gaming. I give vm 24gb RAM and its more than it can practically use.

if i had 64gb i would run ramdisk or something on top of that just to not feel how im wasting all this memory. Memory not used is memory wasted.

if i had 96gb i would run linux desktop vm sitting entirely in RAM. My original linux install would boot just to copy it to the RAM and start the VM with all the hardware passthrough. Or something like that

as for MHZ i would consider 6400, because it might be next 'go to
' frequency for zen5. Should be possible to run most 6400cl32 on 6000cl30, but not the opposite. On the other hand the difference, especially for X3D chips between ram speeds is marginal and you wont be able to tell the difference between 5600cl36 and both above

It's going to be used for gaming at the moment and for development/home server later on.

Are these the best I can get https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBLCKQGV ? and will both run at 6400CL32? Would getting the 2x48GB instead work correctly on this mobo?

Thanks

if it is in the motherboard Memory QVL compatibility list it should work fine.

You might want to update the bios using usb flashback
