I've had this motherboard for quite a bit now and I've been using one m.2 slot and it's starting to get filled up. I've decided to get another m.2 drive but the mounting screw, the one that originally comes attached to the mobo, is gone, and I've looked everywhere for it. What exact screw size is it? I would like to buy this screw so I can install my new drive.
Thanks

Believe it or not, the screw size is M2x3, also called M2.0 x3mm, a metric screw. For example: https://www.moddiy.com/products/M2.0-x-3mm-Black-Screws-(CM2X3%252d3.3).html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3ImYovzz1gIVXLbACh21HQdjEAYYASABEgIuMvD_BwE The next question is, do you need just the screw, or the standoff that attaches to the mother board, that the screw goes into? You said it was attached to the board, but normally only the standoff is screwed into the board, and the screw is in a clear plastic bag in the board's box. |

The same website that has the screw I linked to above, also sells the standoffs, on this page: https://www.moddiy.com/products/Premium-M2-Motherboard-Hex-Stand%252dOff-%283mm-to-20mm%29.html Of course, you'll need the size (height) of the standoff. The best I can tell you is it is a 7mm height standoff. That was measured on an ASRock Z97 Extreme6 board that I don't have mounted in a PC currently. It is important to get the correct height so the M.2 SSD will fit correctly in the M.2 slot, and be parallel to the board. The M.2 slot on your board probably uses the same height standoff, but of course I cannot 100% guarantee that. Also, since I was measuring the height of the standoff with a ruler, I could be off by a millimeter. Since these standoffs cost all of 0.09ยข each, I suggest getting one in every size from say 6mm to 8mm. There is no 9mm available, and 10mm would be too high, given what I have seen used in ASRock boards. I've been using M.2 SSDs in ASRock boards since their Z97 boards, up to Z270, and X370, and they all seem to be the same size in those boards. The height of the standoff is not the only important factor, the threads on the standoff of course matter too. That's why I would recommend purchasing them from a source like in the link above, to get the correct part. Otherwise I have no idea what the threads on the standoff are. |
