I just recently built a PC and I've been through 3 motherboards where ASRock is the only one that seems to run the SM951 256GB without any issues as a boot drive after flashing the BIOS to version 2.10.
Is 2.10 is the only BIOS/UEFI version that works with SM951? Edited by badrobot - 28 Jul 2015 at 1:24am |

Doubt it - 2.30 also works with the sm951 512 Gb so I'm guessing it also runs the 256 Gb without issues.
I can see the makes of your other mobo's (bad luck there!) - what are the models for these? Also, what's the cooler and what case did you fit it in? Thanks

The SM951 actually worked with the ASUS Z97-A (USB 3.1) but I had to pull out one of my GPU to maxiimize the performance because the other PCIe 3.0 slot is only dual lane.
The Gigabyte Z97X Gaming GT on the other hand have 4 PCIe 3.0 slots that can run on x4/x4/x4/x4 but it has compatibility issue that it also runs the SM951 at dual lanes only. I needed a PCIe adapter for these 2 motherboards. The ASRock Z97 Extreme6 has two M.2 slots one of which is Gen 3 x4 which answers my need. No need for adapter so I returned it to Amazon. The CPU cooler is Cooler Master V8 GTS and the case is Cooler Master HAF XB Evo. I will try the v2.30 later this week. |
