Hello everybody,
I want to buy a B550M-ITX/ac and a Ryzen 5700G. On the support site, I see that from BIOS version 1.60 onwards, the Ryzen 5000 G-series is supported, but requires a Matisse, Renoir or Vermeer CPU to perform the Instant Flash. I have neither of these CPU types and thus I want to prevent the need to flash the mainboard! I see that the BIOS version 1.60 came out in March 2021. So I assume that any mainboard that was produced later than mid 2021 is already flashed with v1.60 or higher. Can I therefore check the serial number on the box to find out the production date? Or is this not feasible in general? (I assume that the merchant where I am going to buy the mainboard has enough turnaround to sell recently produced mainboards, but I want to be sure) |

Perhaps try contacting support to see if they can look this up, they "should" have the factory data somewhere that indicates what BIOS version was flashed on that board during production and preparation.
I don't think there will be a way to read that information out of the Serial Number just by looking at it though, it'll have to come from ASRock. I'm assuming that if you are buying the board now, you should be 95% safe unless this vendor has had this in inventory for a long, long time. If that is not possible, you can also try the AMD Boot-Kit Loaner Program, if that is still a thing... They will loan you (for free) a bootable processor for your board so you can Flash the BIOS and install your new Cezanne CPU: https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/faqs/RMA-BKTS.html#rma-bkts-loan Good luck either way, I hope you get it figured out! Thank you Spikeypup!
The vendor from whom I plan to buy is one of the rather large ones in Germany and I have now found on their website that they have sold over 2930 of this mainboard. So I assume that you are right and the risk is minor... but well, you never know :-) I didn't know about the AMD Boot-Kit Loaner Program. That calms me done and I'm going to order the B550M, now knowing that there is a fallback solution. Thanks again! |
