I'm gonna be getting a new x870 soon and I was reading the manual online about the m.2 slots. I plan on using two m.2 drives: a samsung 990 pro 4 TB and a 1 TB (same brand). My plan is to use the 1TB as the OS boot drive and for programs. The 4TB will be for games and such. I'm wondering where they should be plugged in pre OS install and post OS install.
The very top slot or "Blazing" is the 128 gbs write speed slot and "takes first priority", according the manual. While the bottom two slots are the 64gbs write speed slots. So when I install win11 on the 1TB, should it stay in the blazing/top slot? I feel like I'd wanna use the 128gbs write speeds for downloading games on the 4TB. However, It's the "first priority" that's got me questioning if it'd be best to leave the 1TB with the OS in that slot. I'd appreciate any advice and info. Thanks. |

X870 Steel Legend:
M2_1 is Gen.5, directly to CPU. M2_2 is Gen.4, through chipset. M2_3 is also Gen.4, through chipset. Samsung 990 Pro is PCIe Gen4 drive, so it won't run any faster in M2_1 slot, but since it's directly connected to the CPU, it can have a slight benefit. I don't think you'll notice much if any difference. |
