I don't have a great deal of data about the new 2.1 NVMe driver discharge. The modification date demonstrates December 2016, yet this didn't hit the web until after January 1. The supporting notes claim to settle two issues, one being inordinate power utilization and samsung drivers and the other a shutdown bug that we didn't understanding amid testing.

I don't understand what you mean by your testing and the shutdown bug. Did you not have any problems when the PC was shutdown? I don't have that problem, but I've been using the version 2.2 Samsung NMVe driver. The latest Samsung NMVe driver is version 2.3, dated October 2017. If you check its Installation Guide, the Revision History states: Support encrypted drive. I haven't tried any encryption yet, and the Installation Guide has no information about it. The Samsung Magician software should be where any encryption can be turned on, and I also have not tried that yet. This is the download page for the Samsung 960 EVO with the new NVMe driver. The driver and Magician software is the same for all Samsung NVMe SSDs. The Magician Installation Guide describes the security features apparently now available for the supported Samsung SSDs. If you use their encryption, be sure to read the guide, you must disable any encryption before you move the SSD to another PC. http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/ |
