I have an Asrock X470 Taichi Ultimate. I want to use all the PCIe slots (but not necessarily all the lanes) and both the M.2 slots for NVMe drives. But this board says if the third PCIEx16 slot is occupied, the second M.2 slot will be disabled. Is there no way around this? Like, why can't the PCIe x1 slots be disabled instead? Or a couple of SATA ports?

I highly doubt it. If memory serves the lane sharing is not software (firmware).
It is electrically wired that way in the PCB. This kind of limitation comes down from AMD/intel. To get that kind of functionality you typically need a workstation/server board and CPU. With modern hardware it is a lot more forgiving than it once was but beyond a certain point you need to start looking at workstation solutions. In many cases the only difference between a workstation board/CPU combo is the number of available PCIe lanes and cache. Your best bet would probably be a PCIe x1 to M.2 adapter to mount the extra m.2 device. |
