I have the same problem as Woodzy had posted on 12/5/24.

Old motherboard was ASRock H110M-HDV (i5 6th Gen)running a Toshiba HDD and Windows 10. A year ago, I changed (cloned) the Toshiba HDD to a Samsung SSD 870EVO. I disconnected the Toshiba and enjoyed a year on the Samsung SSD - no issues. The Toshiba HDD was running just fine before the SDD upgrade when it was unplugged.

Today the ASRock H110M motherboard died.

Today I purchased a ASRock B760M-HDV/M.2 D4 (and new i5 12th Gen) from Microcenter.

No matter what I try (all day trying everything I can guess at) I can't get the UEFI to recognize either of the two drives as bootable drives. I can 'see' the drives, but I can't get them to show up as bootable drives. They are both on the SATA buss as SATA_0. I have set the type drives (HDD or SSD) as each one was tried. There is no secure boot setup on either drive.

I updated the UEFI on the new motherboard from 6.08 to the latest 9.02 - no change.

I'm out of ideas.

Any help much appreciated.

Update:

It's an MBR verses GPT format issue. The new 'bios' UEFI has dropped legacy support for MBR HDDs. Apparently this is a very common issue for us DIY's that only dabble in PCs once or twice a decade (when our computers commit suicide). The computer world passes us by and we are none the wiser.

Long story short, I tried everything, including running mrb2gpt.exe. Nothing would perform the conversion. Without a supported graphics card, I can't get UEFI to support MBR HHD's. Even if I did have a graphics card, I didn't want to 'handicapped' a new system.

I was force to reinstall Windows 10 and format the hard drive. Not the end of the world, just wasn't part of the plan.

BTW, I give the performance of this motherboard a 'Thumbs Up'.
