Hello,
First off, I want to start by saying sorry for any typos and general lack of knowledge when it comes to computers.  I built my first pc last year.  Currently the issue that I'm having is my computer doesn't recognize that it is connected to a network.  I have checked the cords, they work. I'm using the same cord to type this on my lap top.  When I plug in the ethernet cable my pc doesn't recognize it.  When I use diagnose it says there is no cord plugged in and to connect an ethernet cable.  Now I'm not sure what is supposed to light up when its plugged in but I only get a yellow light that blinks once or twice , then no lights at all. On my lap top and old pc the I get a green light that stays on and a yellow light that bilinks.  I have updated the bios to latest version 1.70 (previously 1.1).  I tried a new update that I almost thought for sure would fix the problem Atheros_Lanv1.1.52.... that was on the download list.  However, when I try to use the usb flash drive to get this update I get a message that says "no image file detected". I'm not sure what else I can do.  Is this a software or firmware issue?  Is this a known issue, or am I special?  I'm seriously considering buying a new pci express card.  I just don't think I should half too.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give me.

I assume the network connection on your Z87 Killer board worked at one time? Or is this the first time you are using this board? Did the Internet ever work with this board? Is anything different currently with that PC than in the past?

I also assume you simply disconnected the Ethernet cable from the Z87 Killer PC and connected it to your laptop?

Given your description of the LEDs around the network port on the Z87 board, the network chip is not functioning. Windows via the diagnose is telling you that no signal is coming into the network port, but that could be a dead or non-functioning network chip.

To try the driver installation, first download the Atheros LAN driver to your laptop. That file is a .zip file, which is a compressed file format you must "extract" before you can use it. Regardless, copy the file you downloaded (Atheros Killer Lan driver ver:1.1.52.1451, the file is Atheros_Lan(v1.1.52.14510.zip) to the USB flash drive.

Next, connect the USB flash drive to the Z87 PC. COPY the file FROM the USB flash drive to a folder on the Z87 PC, such as the Downloads folder. DO NOT try to run it from the USB drive.

Once the Atheros_Lan(v1.1.52.14510.zip file is in the Z87's Downloads folder, Right click on the file, and find the entry Extract All... in the list. Click on that, and just click Ok on the prompts you'll get.

Once the .zip file is extracted, I'm not sure what the contents of the folder that is created will be, but you need to find a file that if of type Application. Right click on that file and choose, Run as Administrator. Follow the prompts to complete the driver installation.

Let us know how this works out for you, and please answer my questions at the top of this post. You did not provide enough information about the use of the network port on the Z87 board in the past to help figure out what is happening. This is not a known issue with your board.

Yes, the network connection worked for 1.5 years.  However the past few months it was acting very strange.   (It wouldn't work for the first 5 min computer woke up after sleeping, or booting up.  It also would only work when connected to the router and not straight to the modem.  My internet speeds dropped to 10mbps.  Where even on this old lap top I get just under 100mbps of download speed.) The PC i build has (i5-4670K, 3.4 ghz 8GB ram  win7 home premium and should be much faster than this with win7/i5-2430m @2.4ghz/ 4GB ram).  The internet issue started in June but I was away for 2 months my wife said the problem persisted and got worse which I experenced the last two weeks and now it wont work at all.  I decided to take the router out of the equation and have been plugging directly into the modem to try and figure the problem which is why I didn't mention it in the first post.

You are also correct in assuming I took the ethernet cable straight from the z87 to the laptop.

I figured out that Atheros Killer Lan was just a driver update and installed before I saw your reply (which was really fast, thanks!). However, I did run it from the flash drive. That didn't help at all.  So I went uninstalled it and re-installed it following your directions. Alas that didn't work either. (No change in anything still get 1-3 yellow light flashes each time I plug in the cable then nothing,  I have tried waiting for 5-10 minutes as well, which was what I have been doing for the last couple weeks)

I thought it might have been a know issue because of the atheros killer lan update.

Besides checking the input jack on the board's IO panel for possible damage, it sounds like the network chip may have died on the board.

You could try RMAing the board, starting that process on this page:

http://www.asrock.com/support/index.asp?cat=RMA

Otherwise, you can buy a cheap network card to use in one of the PCIe x1 slots.

You can these cards starting at ~$10. Intel network cards are excellent, but start at ~$30.

Did you try clearing the CMOS/BIOS on the board? Might do nothing but is free to do and worth a try.

Ok, Thanks a ton.  I didn't clear the cmos/bios as that is out of my comfort zone.  Thanks for the advise on PCI cards and I'm going to go that route.

I have uninstalled the old driver and the Killer Suit, used the Killer Cleaner and installed the new driver from the "Killer E220x/Win7"-Folder. The installation worked fine but it seems that there is no lan-connection. Before, with the old driver, I had a ping about 17, download speed about 12mb and upload speed 1mb. I also go to https://www.netgearroutersupportnumber.com/netgear-arlo-support/ Now I have a ping about 52, download speed 5mb and a upload speed about 0.60mb. This is the same result as if I'm just connected with wLan.  Question
