Hi guys, so I am quite new to overclocking, i know the basics but I am no pro and I tried to overclock my Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4 motherboard that I just bought two days ago from Amazon Prime.

I updated to the latest BIOS available, but I can't get past 2400 when setting it to XMP profile1. I'm guessing I have to set timings myself but I am unsure, is there a guide for this specific part?

I use 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3000 MHz CL15 - CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 - 8Gb Hynix M-Die - http://i.imgur.com/IKBieBS.png what would be the optimal timings if I was to manually OC it?

My CPU is a Ryzen 1600, I run Windows 10 Education 64 Bit.

This is also my first ASRock Motherboard, it's a great looking board for a great price, absolutely love it and the best on board audio I have ever heard, even better than my previously used Sound Blaster Z sound card, but I am starting to think after reading around this board is not so great for OC'ing and that I should of went with a Gigabyte board, as they're supposedly easy to OC on Ryzen.

Could anyone offer me some tips and support in getting the OC to work, maybe some guides centered around the x370 K4 board?

Thanks everyone! :)

To get you started in Ryzen over clocking, I suggest downloading and using the Ryzen Master over clocking utility provided by AMD that runs in Windows. On the same page as the download link for this software is the User Guide, which you can also download and is a must-read guide on basic Ryzen CPU over clocking.

https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master

Memory over clocking on Ryzen, which can also be done in the Ryzen Master utility, is a situation that requires some background explanation. Success in over clocking memory in a Ryzen system is more dependent upon the type of memory chips used in a memory model, and what the highest specified over clock speed is. Samsung B-die memory chips are known to OC the best with Ryzen, Hynix chips in general don't OC as well. If you can't get your memory past 2400 with the XMP profile, the compatibility of your memory with Ryzen is questionable.

All an XMP profile does is automatically set the basic memory timings for you, and the DRAM voltage. Manually setting the same timings will make no difference. What you can do is apply the XMP profile, and "loosen" the basic timings when you increase the memory speed. No one can tell you which timing are optimal, you can only discover that by trial and error. Choose the loosest set of timings (highest numbers), and IF they work, you can TRY to reduce them for better performance, but you'll reach a point where the PC won't POST or boot.

Any memory over clocking is not guaranteed, and your memory model and its timings were designed to work with Intel X99 and Z170 chipset systems. How well it works with Ryzen will be basically luck. Start with the  DRAM Voltage should be set to 1.35V, and the SoC voltage should be increased from the standard 0.9V to 1.1V - 1.2V.

Hey thanks, this was quite helpful, managed to look up tutorials on that program and ended up getting 3.9GHz on my 1600 at 1.37v so far it's been stable with a lot of gaming and benchmarking, but i'll keep at it.

Ram seems to only be able to get to 2600 speed max, i'll try fiddle with it a bit more, thanks again!
