Recently purchased an H97M Mobo could not connect to internet despite most drivers being updated.
When I checked device manager it would show an error with Ethernet Controller and Unknown Device There is no problem with the lan port or my cable as the LED lights in the ports are both on and blinking. Tried updating through bios but nothing worked. Please help. Windows 7 64bit

How did you update/install the board's drivers if it was not connected to the Internet? If you used the disk of drivers that came with your board, the network driver is on that disk. The error you see in Device Manager for the Atheros LAN Ethernet controller says what? A missing driver or something else? If it is a missing driver, your board's Qualcom Atheros driver can be downloaded from your board's page on ASRock's website, here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H97M/index.us.asp?cat=Download&os=Win764 The driver you need is in the list, the Atheros Lan driver ver:2.1.0.21. The file is a .zip file that you must left click on, and select Extract All from the dropdown list. The result will be a folder named AtherosLan(v2.1.0.21). Copy the entire folder to a USB flash drive, so you can copy it to the H97M PC. Copy the entire AtherosLan(v2.1.0.21) folder to your Download folder on the H97M PC. Do not try to run the driver installation program from the USB flash drive. Go into the AtherosLan(v2.1.0.21) folder and find a file called Setup. The Type of the file is Application and it is 372KB in size. There are two files named Setup in this folder, the other one is a small file that is not an Application type file. Left click on the correct Setup file and select Run as administrator from the list. You may be prompted a few times during the installation, just go with the default choice. The unknown device in Device Manager might be caused by the Intel Management Engine driver ver:10.0.31.1000 software not being installed. If you check the Windows Programs and Features, look for an entry for Intel Management Engine Components. If that is not there, you'll need to either download and install it or install it from the disk. If you have this software installed now, we'll try to figure out what else is missing. |
