I don't see a 2.40 UEFI/BIOS version on the Z87 Pro4's BIOS download page:

I do see a 2.04 Beta BIOS, is that what you are using?

If the 2.40 BIOS was listed at one time, it was removed. If you are using a BIOS version that was removed, you should change to the latest version still available. That is version 2.30.

Otherwise, since the Intel 8 series chipsets (such as the Z87) some SSDs are not detected right away. I have a newer Intel SSD that would not be detected consistently in the UEFI, but it was seen by Windows and I had an OS installed on it.

Sometimes it takes several restarts of the PC to get the SSD detected. I know you changed cables so started the PC many times. But I mean restarting the PC without any other changes.

There is a setting in Storage Configuration in the UEFI for each SATA port, for the type of drive. It can be Hard Drive or Solid State Drive. Even if a drive is not connected, you can set the type of drive to Solid State Drive on the SATA port. That might help getting the drive connected.

When you said you cannot install an OS on the SSD, is that when you run the Windows installation program?
