B650E PG-ITX XMP Boot Issue

I have a B650E PG-ITX with a 9800X3D, 64GB (32x2) of Gskill Flare x5 F56000J3040GX2-FX5 (Hynix chips), a Corsair SF1000 (2024) PSU running Bios version 3.15 (Also tested with same results on 3.10)

Memory Context Restore is enabled across all the following results.

If I run the Ram at stock settings (4800) then there's no noticeable issues, First boot times are between 30-60s for memory training and all following boot times are between 10-15s.

When I enable XMP (6000) I start to run into a strange issue. Increased memory training boot time to 60s and any boots that follow (where the computer was not fully shut down, meaning a BIOS or Windows Reboot) will not Post. I've left it to train for over an hour with no change from the flashing power LED. Any/all following boots will take the full 60s for full memory training.

Everything seems fine and runs at speed when it's booted but the lack of a stable reboot option is not reassuring.

Additionally from what I've tested the power state on the graphics card (when installed, results have been consistent with or without a GPU) is telling if a boot will post or not. If the GPU Fans get loud on power up then it'll post and they will drop to an idle state. If they do not increase in RPM then it wont post, leaving me to believe it's a power state issue with the motherboard.

I've been looking and trying options such as enabling Memory Power Down from Auto have not changed and disabling Memory Context Restore does nothing either.

Is there something I'm missing? Ive heard of the memory changes with AM5 but this is something different entirely.

Hello!

That's the problem with EXPO & XMP, they are both overclocking profiles.
The memory controller of the CPU might, or might not handle well the excessive speed.

I'd load the EXPO or XMP profile, then I'd lower the DRAM speed at DDR5-5800, or DDR5-5600, leaving timings and voltage as set by the EXPO/XMP profile.
See if that solves the issue.

This was very helpful thank you! I was so used to XMP profiles "just working"

I spent some time trying different settings from the profile and had some luck being able to run at 5600Mhz CL34.

This led me to looking more into DDR5 timings with AM5 and I came across BuildZoid's video on timings. Using the settings he shows here:

Alongside my XMP profile's default timings and Voltages I managed to get 6000Mhz at CL30 which my BIOS seems to approve of. It now keeps the memory training and sequential boots are in the 10-15s range. I'll be doing some long testing for memory stability next but thank you again and I hope this is helpful if someone else runs into similar issues.

I am glad to hear that it's working well, now!

Just to be sure that your system is really stable:

1. Please download the free tool, MemTest86, put it on a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive, then boot with it and let it run for a few hours, until it will say: "PASS".

2. Download Cinebench 2024 (it's free) and let it benchmark your system until it finishes.

If both of these 2 apps finish their tests, without errors, then you can be pretty sure that your system is stable.
