Well, this motherboard is a real pig. Latest bios randomly freezes, Stata3- 0 does not recognise any SSD, will recognise a DVD.
I'm using a Samsung NvMe 950 pro in the M.2 3 slot as boot. My 850 pro as Data, it just wont work in Sata3 -0. I've tried two other SSD's and it's the same. Also, because my 980 GPU( needed to use a shorter card so I could get to the SATA ports) covers most of Intel Sata ports I tried to enable the onboard graphics - no chance, wouldn't work at all. Also bios reset either by removal of the battery does nothing with regard to the sata3-0 port. This is the first Asrock board that I have and it's the last. Really p**** of with this lump of junk. If this is the best Asrock can offer then I'M back to Asus. Edited by no1yak - 19 Jul 2016 at 9:37pm |

Starting with the SSD problem. The SATA3_0 port is at the top of the "stack" of SATA ports, with the board mounted in a standard PC case, on the left side. The one to the right of it is the SATA3_2 port. Storage Configuration screen in the BIOS: SATA Mode is set to AHCI or RAID, default is AHCI. Is the 850 Pro recognized in the BIOS in this screen? Regardless, if you click on the SATA3_0 port entry, did you change the Drive Type option to Solid State Drive? Just to confirm, your 950 Pro is in the M2_3 slot, which is the M.2 slot at the very bottom of the board. The Z170 chipset shares resources between the M.2 slots and the SATA ports, instead of using the PCIe lanes of the CPU, as all previous Intel system do. IF you had the 950 Pro in the M2_1 slot, that would disable the SATA3_0 and SATA3_2 ports. Given what you wrote, that does not seem to be the situation. Other standard drive recognition fixes are trying different SATA data cables, a different SATA power cable or connection. The onboard graphics problem. What CPU are you using? It seems you removed the 980 before you tried the integrated graphics? If not, and if a cable was connected to the 980, even with a cable connected to the integrated graphics output, the BIOS would attempt to use the 980. If the Primary Graphics Adapter option was set to PCIe, instead of Onboard, the integrated graphics should still be selected, if there were no video cards in the board. Are you using the same cable between your monitor and the integrated graphics output? The integrated graphics problem is one I've never seen happen. Did the CPU socket look good, no bent pins? A new, in box board? I have a very similar board, the Z170 Extreme7+, and I've never had the SATA or integrated graphics problems. The BIOS freezing can happen, and is really a random non-response, it will respond usually after a short time. Newer BIOS versions should have fixed the non-response issue. Have you installed an OS on this PC yet? It's possible you got a bad board, not that we've had many if any reports of that about your model. |

Thanks for the reply.
All Sata ports except sata 0 work with my SSD's. My Blu-Ray /DVD burner works in sata 0. My CPU is an i7 6700K. I have sent the board back to Scan after I explained to them what was happening and they gave me an RMA . So I will now have to wait for them to test it. Another thing, In Event Viewer there was alot of IO errors for the Corsair Neutron drive. I have another Win 10 machine and I'm now using that drive with no errors at all. From what I could tell the bios would not let me select onboard. How do set for onboard when you have to use the 980 to get into the bios and change it onboard, then save, exit bios, shut down ,remove card and connect to onboard(using displat port) and still no onboard video. I agree that the onboard graphics should kick in once the card is removed but, it doesn't. Even after a bios reset by removing the cmos battery for 15 mins and booting with no card. Onboard graphics did work before updating the bios to 1.6, even tried a re flash and switched form A to B bios. Edited by no1yak - 20 Jul 2016 at 7:53pm |
