I am working with a new AMD 970A-G/3.1 motherboard in my test PC. I tried out the RAID function. The RAID system documentation is not very transparent and I got it working by sort of setting it up backwards. I tried RAID 5 with 3 drives. It worked OK and was very fast. Th whole reason for RAID 5 is error recovery and continuous operation if a drive fails. Unfortunately the system has NO recovery if a drive fails. RAID should rebuild the array after a bad drive is replaced. To get the logical drive at full operation requires deletion and re-initialization. That makes the whole effort nearly useless. The system does keep operating so a complete failure is avoided but that's all you get.
