I just installed an NVME into my M2_1 slot but it is not being recognized. I have seen other threads on this forum in which tech support has suggested flashing to Bios v10.XX in order to get a force M2 option in the bios. However, all bios versions newer than v5.6 state that ASRock does not recommend that update for Pinnacle Ridge systems. Will v5.6 give me the force M2 option or will I need to chance the not-recommended v10.XX?

No idea about M2 slot behavior, but I have multiple AsRock B450 boards with Ryzen 7 2700 and 2700X, running latest BIOS. For example, B450M Pro4 R2.0 with Ryzen 7 2700 and beta BIOS 10.31, running just fine.

I flashed the BIOS to v10.31. Thanks for the input u/eccential. I was able to force M2_2 to recognize the drive so I know the drive isn't bad. I swapped it back to the M2_1 slot after I got it formatted, in hopes that maybe it just wasn't seated right but it still doesn't work in M2_1.

I have read that being able to use the M2_1 slot will allow Gen 3x4 speeds while the M2_2 slot caps at Gen 3x2 speeds. I would love to be able to get max speed out of the drive and I am grateful to anyone who can help resolve this issue.

After refining my web search terms, I was able to find this thread:

https://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=72668&title=strange-problems-with-b450-steel-legend-and-crucia

I'm guessing that my Samsung 990 EVO Plus Gen 4x4 1 TB drive is similarly not supported which is causing the problem.

I am still grateful for any other insight anyone may have.

I have the B450 Pro4. No M.

I've discovered I can't have NVME in the Ultra m2 slot and a GPU at the same time.

My processor doesn't have biult in graphics but I learned if I remove the card and reboot, the led on the nvme drive lights up. If I reinstall the graphics card and boot up. The nvme does nothing.

Attempted to move the graphics card to the 2nd slot but it didn't work.

Enabled force nvme for the regular 2nd m.2 slot. Will attempt to install the nvme there and see if it works.

For now, the OS is on a regular SD. Was hoping to switch to nvme but I either have a bad board or the asrock b450 pro4 is just designed that way. Not sure. My ryzen 5 3600 has 24 lanes so I don't know why the m2 1 slot amd pcie 3.0 slot would compete like that.

Attempting a budget build from a free older pc with the arc b570. Maybe SD is good enough but was hoping to push everything to the limit I could with what I have on hand and just upgrade the cpu. But now I'm tempted to do board, cpu, and ddr5 ram.

Anyway, hope this helps if I understand your issue correctly. I don't think it's an issue of support for nvme, but rather a board design thing. But not sure.
