So, my first post here and my first experience with asrock.
Simple case, I´ve bought a new Z170 Exterme4, and it´s up and running with no issues. The back usb 3.0 ports are working but the front panel of my case, a Corsair, does not. It is plugged to the USB 3.0 header of the MOBO but something is not working. Obviously, therefore my question, the front usb ports does not work. If I go to the UEFI, in the MOBO map, the header appears like empty, so either it´s not recognizing the front panel or I have to install/enable something. Any idea? Thanks in advance! |

I understand your description fine. What version of Windows are you using? I have a Corsair case that had the same problem, the USB 3.0 ports would not work. After checking the Corsair PC Case forum, I learned that the part in the case that has the front panel USB 3.0 ports was defective on some of these cases. I tested my case and was sure I had the same problem. I filled out an RMA request form on Corsair's website, saying I need a replacement front panel module for my case, since the USB 3.0 ports did not work. Corsair sent me this part free, I replaced it and that fixed the problem. I live in the USA, so I don't know how well the Corsair RMA process will work in your country. I don't know if your Corsair case (which model do you have?) has this problem or not, but you should at least check if it does. Did you check Device Manager, the USB Controllers entries? If you put a USB flash drive in one of the front panel USB 3.0 ports, and the front panel module is defective, you might see an error message in one of the entries. The cable and connector for the front panel USB 3.0 ports does not fit very tight in the mother board. The connector is keyed and only fits in correctly one way. You should check if the connector from the front panel is fully seated in the mother board, and inserted in the correct way. You will need to bend and route that cable carefully, as it can move very easily and loose its connection. Also, the pins in the USB 3.0 mother board connector are very thin, which is how they were designed. Check if any of them are bent, by removing the front panel cable from the board. |

parsec, thanks a lot for answering.
In any case, it is solved, don´t ask me how. I guess that the problem is in the plug from the front panel. As you say, it fits a bit lousily and, for whatever reason, it has dedided to finally make contact. Curious! |
