- Ryzen 5 7600 w/ stock cooler @ PBO 85C
- ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 - G.SKILL Ripjaws S5 Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model F5-6000J3636F16GX2-RS5K Basically, while I can POST on the stock JEDEC 4800 MHz, I cannot get consistent POST on anything much higher. When I do clear POST with higher settings, I can run hours of memtest86 always with zero errors. But, eventually on restart, POST will fail the memory training -- 3-beep memory error, and I get reset back to JEDEC 4800. Extremely frustrating. I did mess up in buying this particular RAM kit, which actually has the Intel XMP Profile rather than AMD EXPO. However, the updated BIOS does provide me with the XMP1 setting, and either way, I'm told ultimately this shouldn't matter - that I should be manually setting timings. So far I have not had success with most settings. It may have been stable at like, 5200 MHz? But I'm not even certain of that (not enough testing.) But if I can't even get 5400 MHz (90% of my rated spec) it really seems like something is physically wrong? I think I can still RMA my board if I do it somewhat soon. - Has anyone else here had, or resolved similar issues? - Can you tell me good timings or things to try (like specific things to set in the BIOS POST memory trainings?) - Do you think I should RMA my motherboard, RAM, and/or CPU while I still can? Thanks. |

Hello! It's not about your motherboard or RAM. Your CPU supports officially DDR5-5200 only! Obtaining anything higher than that is not a given, it's pure silicone lottery luck! My advice: 1. Go into BIOS 2. Load the XMP DDR5-6000 profile 3. Search for "OC Tweaker" or a menu of such 4. Search for "DRAM Speed", and choose the DDR5-5200 profile (This way, you'll remain with the timings & voltage of the DDR5-6000 profile, with only the DRAM lowered at 5200MT/s). I hope this helps... |

Thanks so much!! I've worked on and asked about this for many weeks, and not one person informed me of that.
One thing I noticed is, the XMP1 profile timings seem REALLY different than the base JEDEC. With some being more and some less. Can you tell me if there might be inherent differences between XMP and EXPO timings that are working against me / compromising stability, especially with the Ryzen 7600? I just never even knew RAM kits would have Intel vs AMD timings. Actually... looking more into this, and even 7700X and 7800X3D only officially support 5200. But most people seem to have no problem running 6000. Do you think I just lost the silicon lottery, and if so was it on the CPU? |

Hi again! First of all, as long as the system can hit those expected frequencies (in your case DDR5-5200), you can't really complain. The second thing, about other people being able to run DDR5-6000 without problems, there's no guarantee that, 1-2 years down the road, they won't encounter stability issues in the future! In my case, I own a Ryzen 9 9950X & an ASRock X670E Taichi (latest BIOS), with a 360mm Arctic AIO cooler and a 1200W Corsair PSU. My RAM kit is from Kingston Fury and it has both XMP & EXPO profiles: DDR5-6400 CL32 1.4V & DDR5-6000 CL30 1.4V. Though I can boot with any of the 2 profiles, if I test my system with MemTest86, I'm getting errors. So, I've loaded the EXPO DDR5-6000 profile, but I've lowered the DRAM frequency at DDR5-5800. With these settings, my system is rock stable! There's a reason why AMD & JEDEC did not approve of such high memory frequencies! The 3rd thing is... RAM speed isn't as important as some people claim! RAM size & system stability are far more important. PS: Enjoy using your system! Don't worry about synthetic benchmarks. Even going down to DDR5-4800 isn't as bad (a 1%-2% performance decrease). I hope this helps... |

Well, I never got a single error on 5+ hours of memtest86 at any speed that I tested. Looking over my notes, I had tested up to 5800 MHz. 1 full pass no errors for that, and I moved on to other testing (at the time my Windows 10 was corrupt and crashing me out, so you can imagine that caused a lot of confusion.) But even though memtest never had 1 error, I'd fail POST.
- Couldn't there still be a solution for me in adjusting BIOS settings in POST? - If I can't stabilize over 5200 do you think it's my CPU that "lost the lottery" ? |

Hi! Fist, when testing with MemTest86, please don't stop the test after a single pass! The program must complete all 4 passes! (In my case, with the EXPO DDR5-6000 profile, the errors appeared only at the 3rd pass). Secondly, about losing at the silicone lottery: I'd say that others got luckier. But, as long as the CPU runs in spec, I wouldn't call it a loss. Buying a 13th or 14th Gen Intel CPU and having stability issues while running the system at stock speeds, that's what a loss looks like! |

- Can you tell me the complete set of timings your EXPO profile sets you to? That would give me a basis of comparison for my XMP profile timings.
- When you were getting memtest errors, were you still passing POST every time? How often did you experience the 3-beep memory error resetting you to 4800? - Again, if I can't get over 5200 MHz, do you specifically think it's the CPU? I want to know this, because I'm on the fence about upgrading my CPU anyway. |
