No sound

   I have been unsuccessful attempting to get 5.1 sound from my ASRock Z790 TAICHI CARRARA motherboard to my Onkyo 7.1 receiver. 

The receiver does not have Realtek digital input plugs, but it has several HDMI in ports. I attached the MB to every HDMI inputs using a new $40 HDMI cable.  NO JOY.  Same result from the digital optical connection.

Can an ALL POWERFUL GURU please help me out.  The settings menu and the device manager do not recognize or see the HDMI port on the MB or is that just a dummy cutout?
