I would like to play Civilization 7 on Linux, for this I would like and need to boot into the external USB drive.

I connect the usb drive, restart windows.

However ASRock B650E motherboard fails to boot properly after the external drive is connected and a restart is issued, even without connecting the drive I also noticed booting into the bios is no longer possible ?! WHY THE HECK IS THIS ?!?

Only thing which seemed to help is disconnect all cables, this is unacceptable.

BIOS version is still 1.28.

I see two lights burnings: VGA and BOOT, wtf this means ?

Very annoying that basic boot functionality is still not working in 2025 !!!

I consulted AI to ask with red BOOT and VGA led means and what problem could be.
AI suggested that secure boot and eufi might have troubles.

So I tried following steps:

1. Deleted the FAT32 partition/volume used to install linux ubuntu 24.0.4.1 by using windows create/manage partition tool.

2. Went to start menu system recovery etc and choose advanced startup.

To my surprise it boot directly into linux ubuntu without even needing to consult a boot menu, that was kinda strange... maybe bios is setup to boot from usb external device/boot order.

Well nice, I am now typing this from linux ubuntu..

Also gnome-disks command was run in terminal to then attach my vhd, so I could get to my information folder to access my password for this form !

Nice to see linux finally has some decent vhd support ! =D
