I built a new system a couple of months ago and right away it started crashing daily, most of the time with no bsod/errors, a couple of times it gave me clock_watchdog_timeout but no crash dump. For more details on troubleshooting steps and what not i made a thread on ltt forums (https://linustechtips.com/topic/1501309-new-build-freezecrash-with-no-bsod-or-errors/), but long story short i managed to narrow it down and reproduce the crash. It happens when instant replay is turned on in Shadowplay and is saving temporary files to my new WD Blue 4 tb hdd. I have another like 10 year old 1tb WD Red hdd and 980pro 1tb, and if I set the temporary file folder to one of them then crashes stop. Another symptom is that when I'm playing media from that hdd, e.g. those saved mp4 replays, videoplayer will occasionally freeze/crash, regardless of which player I'm using. I tried moving this 4tb hdd to a different system, and wasn't able to reproduce any of the problems there, so I guess the problem is not hdd itself. And since those crashes also occured when i tried a different cpu and memory, this leaves the motherboard. Just updated bios from 1.18 to 1.24 hoping that might help, but i tried playing a clip from the hdd and the player crashed and froze the whole explorer for a few seconds, so I guess the problem is still there, not even gonna bother reproducing the crash again.
Any ideas on a possible fix to this? Or is my motherboard just faulty in some way? |
