i have 2 ADATA XPG GAMMIX D30 8GB DDR4 3200MHZ RAM sticks in my computer (Ryzen 5 3400G, ASRock B450 Pro 4). facing occassional BSOD issues for the last month. today i checked the memory with windows memory diagnostics.
as soon as it started, it showed "Memory problems can cause your computer to lose information or stop working. To identify and repair the problem, contact the computer manufacturer."
it appears either of them has developed some fault. soon i will check it with memtest86 and hope to identify which one has the issue. if it has some issue, then it needs to be replaced.

i am thinking of adding a single 32gb module in it along with the good 8GB one. will there be an issue even when both of them are 3200mhz? any specific brand to go for?

i am asking this because i was looking at crucial ram on their website but their compatibility test says their 32gb CT32G4SFD832A is not compatible with this motherboard and suggests only 16 X 2 sticks.

thanks.

CT32G4SFD832A is an SO-DIMM (Small form factor memory modules for Laptops and Mini-PCs). Of course, it won't be compatible with a standard motherboard.

Try CT32G4DFD832A instead.

As for mixing one 32GB DIMM and one 8GB DIMM, it will likely work, but is not something anyone would recommend. It's best to have symmetric DIMM setup on the two memory channels for maximum performance and reliability.

I would never even mix two DIMMs I bought at different times. If the bad DIMM is still under warranty, maybe you can try to get it replaced. I thought most reputable brand DIMMs have "lifetime" warranty. Otherwise, I'd stick to replacing both with a pair of matched DIMMs.

thanks. it says the same for CT32G4DFD832A as well. - "The selected configuration is not compatible with your B450 Pro4."

now the question is -> does this motherboard even support a single 32gb module?

https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/B450%20Pro4/index.asp#Specification
- Max. capacity of system memory: 128GB**

Obviously, the only way it can get to 128GB is using four 32GB DIMMs.
Ryzen 5 3400G is Picasso so two Dual-Rank DIMMs means it's only guaranteed to work at up to 2400MT/s speeds, per the same specification page. I don't see a problem with that.

Specs and memory compatibility is a weird thing. For example, this page:
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty%20X470%20Gaming-ITXac/index.asp#Specification
It still says, "- Max. capacity of system memory: 32GB**"
But that's wrong. I used two sticks of KSM32ED8/32ME on it (64GB total), using Ryzen 7 2700X before, and those are ECC UDIMMs, so even more quirky than standard memory. The spec was written long before 32GB DIMMs were available, but that doesn't mean it can't be supported.

The DIMMs are JEDEC spec 3200MT/s, but I ran them at 2400MT/s just fine.

Now, Amazon listing for CT32G4DFD832A says, "3200MHz RAM can downclock to 2933MHz or 2666MHz if system specification only supports 2933MHz or 2666MHz"

Really? It can't downclock to 2400MT/s? I have my doubts, AND it might run just fine at 2666MT/s speeds with Picasso. Even my 2700X ran the DIMMs at 3200MT/s, but the Uncore voltage required to do that was way too high for my comfort, so I ran them at 2400MT/s.

Purely based on my experiences with AM4 boards and various JEDEC spec unbuffered DIMMs, I'm pretty sure it would work just fine, but that's all I can tell you.

I don't have the exact motherboard model you have, any Picasso generation APU, nor these exact Crucial DIMMs. So anything I say is basically heresy.

Come to think of it, it's kind of funny that I don't have a single Picasso generation APU. I have Raven and Renoir, but no Picasso or Cezanne.
