Hey guys,
I believe I have a bad mobo on my hands. I figured I would ask you guys to make sure it's bad before I submit the RMA. Today when I got home from work I tried turning my pc on. Nothing loaded up on the monitor but everything seemed to be running (hdd, pc lights, etc). After closer inspection in the case, the mobo wasn't starting up. What's weird is the power button on the mobo still seemed to turn on the computer. I also checked the graphics card to see if that was having issues. The fans still run when on but no life other then that. I plugged in my vga monitor directly into the mobo with no luck. At this point, I'm out of ideas. Can anyone assist with this issue? I'd be happy to hear your opinions. Bonus: here's a video of it starting up. https://vid.me/1tHy Thanks!

The first step in a situation like yours is always to clear CMOS. I recommend the battery removal method as it is most likely to resolve any potential corrupted BIOS information.
Some questions for you: 1. does the system also power off if you press the power button a second time? 2. If not, does it turn off if you hold down the power button? 3. Is anything displayed on the Dr. Debug LED display? (the display on the motherboard that looks like 88") 4. Did you remove your graphics card when you tried to use the onboard video output?

Joker231,
Please, this is the second time in less than 24hrs I've moved your Intel Z97 question from under the AMD Support section to the proper Intel section. You won't get much attention posting Intel ???'s under the AMD section. |

I'm confused by your description. You said the board wasn't starting up, but the power button on the board seemed to turn on the PC. Do you mean using that button and the power button on the PC case have the same result, the board not starting, or is their a different reaction? When you have this problem, what do you see on the Dr Debug display? By "PC lights", do you mean the power LED and HDD LED on your PC case? Do you have a POST beep speaker connected to the board? Out of ideas? Have you checked the cable connections from the PSU to the board? Have you tried another PSU? Do the LEDs next to the network input port light up? Have you tried turning off the PSU, unplugging it from AC power, and leaving it like that for a minute. Then connecting it and turning it on again? |
