I built this Rig back in March '18. I was in a bit of a hurry when ordering the parts because of technical difficulties (MB or chip was thought to be dead - MB got grounded out during a routine radiator cleaning... My bad.) with my old Machine and the only backup system on hand was my Dual Xeon media server...

Anyhow, this is what I ended up with.
  • Cooler Master Mastercase 5 Pro
  • AMD Ryzen 7 1700
  • ASRock X370 Killer SLI/ac (Currently running BIOS L4.71)
  • CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 2666 ( CMK16GX4M2A2666C16 )
  • ASUS DUAL GTX 1060 6GB
  • Migrated all drives and PSU from old machine...
Ever since I've put this together it seems to be a little buggy. At first I was thinking that it could be issues with the CORSAIR CX750M PSU. I swapped that out with the Cooler Master Masterwatt 650 that came free with my order. Still acting funny. So maybe the motherboard? The RAM? BIOS? BIOS Setting? I don't know but a lot of my research points to the RAM/BIOS settings. That's why I am here.

Anyone here have a setup like mine that can help me get my box running smoothly? I will add some more details here in a bit.

Okay. Here is some info that I think will help you help me :)

At times I'll get these little hicups. Mouse lag etc. At one point if I plugged a usb storage stick in certain ports it was like the usb power drop off and my keyboard and mouse would lag bad. I eventually unloaded the driver and let Windows reinstall it. Seems to be okay for the most part but happens once in a while.

Another annoying thing is the Memory getting retrained every other reboot. AM4 Adv. Training on? off?

Looking to find how high of mhz the Ram will go but in the end i'm looking for low latency everyday use.

What BIOS version is best with my CPU, RAM and MB? Can anyone with same HW share there settings for me to use as a baseline to try and get this tuned in?

If there's someone out there with same Chip MB and RAM could you share your settings. I know even the same hardware is different but a different baseline to start from.

Well if I missed something or you just need to know more you know what to do...

Memory settings according to Ryzen Timings Checker

Passmark Benchmark I just ran a few minutes ago.
  • CPU @ 3725 / AUTO Offset / Memory setting above running on Air (Water is on its way...)

The reason I'm here. How can I improve this? Seems a bit low?

BIOS Settings / Questions (My questions and comments will come after the images. )

  • Does not reflect last benchmark settings. (Vcore Offset was Auto and DRAM voltage was 1.25)
______________________________________________________________________
  • I know about pstates but could someone explain some of the other stuff.
______________________________________________________________________
  • What to enable? I'd like to not see AUTO everywhere... LOL
______________________________________________________________________
  • There's a bunch of stuff in here that I don't know about. If someone could take there time to go over some of the stuff or point me to a good read?
______________________________________________________________________
  • I've read where some people tweak some of these settings. As you can see I tried messing with the Ext. Clock gen but it didn't change a thing. Was trying to get the bus just over 100 but... Nothing.

  • What is with this LAN Power Enable? The only thing I could think of, but pointless, was a PoE injection feature?

  • What is Mode0?
  • What's that slider about?

i prefer the simple bios versions 3xxx for a first gen ryzen
i also recommend using the ryzen dram calculator program written by 1usmus (google search)
to work out ALL the dram timings and settings for you

and dont mess with the clk gen.................

p.s. am4 boot training to auto/on it helps try to get the ram running before spitting out its dummy and resetting it to stock

p.p.s.  @migrated drives@ ..did you do a fresh windows install ?, old versions will adapt but always seem to cause random headaches

I hate when everybody recommends Ryzen DRAM Calclulator like it's holy grail. It doesn't do s*** for me. I can only run 3000MHz Corsair memory at 2133MHz on Taichi (ASRock c'mon, new BIOS, I beg) no matter what settings I use. Calculator doesn't help at all.

Maybe you will have more luck with first gen Ryzen and 2x8GB Corsair at lower speeds, cannot find your chips manufacturer, I assume Hynix's. I was able to run 2666 in the beginning with Taichi. Stay with pre Ryzen 2xxx BIOS.

just wondering have you tried running your kit with amd cert kit specs i mean its worth a try even knowing you dont have b-dies
CL14-14-14-34
CL15-15-15-35
CL15-15-15-39
CL16-16-16-39

i dont use ryzen dram calculator my system wont boot in any settings posted in them from 3333-3600. So i've just manually copy other kits default settings and go from there.

Well it seems low, mine are 15-17-17-35. I tried 14 (at lower speed, 2666 or 2800) and after that most of the time 16-18-18-38 and loose them from there on, in even numbers (when I was not using DRAM Calculator safe suggestion).
I could try with 16-16-16-39, but isn't 16 in the middle a bit too low considering nominal timings for this RAM at 3000MHz?

It works usually for 2-3 days until Memory Management BSOD. No problems currently at 2133 and UEFI defaults for RAM - 3rd day running. Also did MemTest at 2133 - memory is alright.
