Building new machine, Z690 Extreme with gen 12 i5 chip using onboard graphics, 32G Corsair RAM, EVGA 850 PSU. Boot drive is an nvMe 4x4 SSD which seems to work fine, but that shouldn't be involved here.
After some minor hiccups, got past the POST diagnostics, but with HDMI monitor connected to the motherboard HDMI port via standard HDMI cable, no display on the monitor which setup works with other PC's. After buying an adaptor and cable was able to get BIOS setup to show on a VGA monitor using the DisplayPort connector. But I'm planning to use the HDMI. Searched online and found articles about changing BIOS settings, but those were ineffective. Another suggestion was clearing CMOS, so I jumpered it, removed battery, waited. Reset was ineffective, other than the BIOS lost my boot order and other settings and lost the time, and I wasted time. Other articles seemed to point to updating BIOS, so I migrated from 2.07 to 3.04 and then the most recent 5.06 (strangely versions 6, 7 and 8 are older than 5). That was also ineffective. Most of the articles tend to focus on Windows settings and drivers, which as far as I'm concerned is irrelevant. Maybe I'm not using Windows. Maybe I'm writing my own fricking operating system. I have no operating system. Let's just start with I want to see the BIOS setup screen on my HDMI-connected monitor. How do I get that working? Chris. |

Success! Turns out it was my HDMI cable. While the exact same cable works fine from at least two laptops (including one that I successfully tried just yesterday), for some reason it doesn't get along with the HDMI output on the Z690. With a different cable, works great!
