So I have a 7700k with 2x8gb corsair dominator platinum 3200 cl16 sticks that are on the compatibility list. I've noticed that when I enable xmp I have to boost vcore offset by +50 from -10 for the same 4.8ghz/4.2ghz nb oc as leaving it at 2133. Has anyone else noticed anything similar? Also when trying to tighten up the timings I've also noticed that its impossible to set RTL (CHA/B), IO-L (CHA/B) D1 settings to anything other then auto. If adjusted I get four beeps, no matter what. D0 settings can be adjusted with no problems. Anyone else had any luck getting ram over 3466mhz? That's the hard limit for me no matter how loose I take the timings.

I have the same issue with my vengeance 3600 kit, it won't go beyond 3733 (which isn't even stable) no matter what I do with it. I get the feeling DDR4 just isn't very forgiving when it comes to overclocking beyond the binned rating.
I don't have anything to offer as advice but figured I would post my experience with overclocking faster kits here. My 2800 kit only goes up to 2933 as well, same deal, no post as soon as I try and push it higher, even bumping voltage from 1.2 to 1.35 won't allow me to post past 2933 on it. I will look at the timings you mentioned and see if I can duplicate your issue though my RAM is not the same model as yours.

So had sometime to play around with the board. Managed to get 3600mhz, board didn't make it easy neither.
http://imgur.com/a/fewDN Couldn't go any higher, and boards really quirky. You have to load a known good profile, reboot. Then enter bios again, load your settings, and then you'll be able to boot. Training issue? Now just to tighten up the timings.

Sounds like you are setting your memory parameters manually, which is better really. XMP profiles for DDR4 are not dependable given my experience. I use the DRAM Tweaker feature in DRAM Configuration to set the basic, stock timings and voltage, and pass on XMP.
We are taking these high memory speeds for granted now, which are not a given. Recall when DDR3 at 2133 was an OC? The memory signalling at DDR4 speeds (3000+) are difficult to engineer, the build quality of the board and the layout of the memory traces are more and more critical. Higher priced boards ($200+) have more effort put into the memory speed potential, we cannot expect unlimited memory over clocking on any mother board. I also agree that high speed DDR4 memory won't OC much if at all above the rated OC speed. One tick over the 3600 spec of my G.SKILL (3733) and stability is poor. It takes tuning big time to get it stable, and more voltage. Most memory is like this IMO. I wish Samsung made DDR4 memory was easy to find, at higher speeds. If you are into doing that, great, but I feel there is too much out of my control, and unknown, to make it worthwhile. |
