This has had me scratching my head to no end, so thank you, (in advance) for any help anyone can offer.
I am using a Z170 PRO4S and running a completely up to date Windows 10 install and have had no issues with either my USB ports or my ATA Bluray DVD drive. I recently added a second ATA hard drive and then went to clone my old drive to the new one with Acronis Disk Director, which required rebooting from a USB thumb drive with the Acronis Disk Director OS on it. I went into my BIOS, changed the boot order to have it recognize the USB drive 1st, and tried to boot into the Acronis OS. Unfortunately, the Acronis OS never fully booted, so I ended up shutting down the computer entirely, removing the thumb drive, and rebooting. The system rebooted just fine and Windows appears to work properly, however my ATA Bluray drive is now missing from the available drives/directories in "This PC", (although, it shows up in the device manager as being there). In addition, any time I plug a USB device in, (thumb drive, external hard drive, etc.), I hear the chime recognizing that it has been plugged in, but they never show up in "This PC" and I can't access them at all. Any thoughts or ideas on a solve?

Here you go, and thanks for taking a look. The two USB devices I plugged in after start-up show up at the top with problems, (it's a thumb drive and an external hard drive). I expanded my Bluray player to show that it DOESN'T show as having any problems, I just can't access it. Additionally, to make things even weirder, when I push the button to open the tray, the light flashes but the tray won't open. And, if I paperclip it open and put a disk in, it still doesn't show up or recognize that anything is there.
I also opened up the USB controllers tab so you can see what's going on there, (doesn't show any issues, currently).

Well, the plot thickens a little, in that the Acronis website seems to imply that they frequently wreak havoc with people's drivers for USB and mass storage devices. I'm just now digging into their forums, but it looks like I may end up trying to reinstall all of the most current drivers on the Asrock support page for the

Based on the fact you changed the boot order in UEFI, I would have done an F9 to load defaults saved it and then checked the Storage menu to see if the DVD returned. If the DVD is in Storage I would then run Driver Booster in windows to get the system drivers. DB also has a clean unplugged devices utility built in and will remove "all" unplugged Device Manager "ghosts". |
