You used the Beta UEFI/BIOS version P2.90M? http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme4/?cat=Beta I assume "UEFI mode" means you selected the entry for your Windows installation media in the Boot order that was, "UEFI: <flash drive name>"? No mention of setting the CSM option to disabled or otherwise configured. You did not mention the version of Windows you are using. If it is Windows 7 or 8, you did not install with an NVMe driver, which is required. Unless you loaded one during the Windows installation, which you did not specify, and depends upon what driver file you used. A Windows installation NVMe driver program will not work. The entry in the Boot order is Windows Boot Manager. Otherwise, all I can tell you is with newer NVMe SSDs like the 960 series, the P2.90M UEFI version does not seem to work. I don't know why. I'll try it again myself when I have a chance, using an Asus Hyper M.2 to PCIe adapter card. But there is a modified version of the P2.90M UEFI that is supposed to be from ASRock, but I cannot verify if that it true or not. There is yet a further modified version of it that supposedly fixes a wake from Sleep problem, which I never had with my Intel 750 NVMe SSD. I'll give you a link to the modified UEFI version that some users claim works, but first I must tell you I have no idea how good or how safe this UEFI version is, and I don't know if it will actually solve your issue. You use it at your own risk, ASRock and I take zero responsibility for any and all consequences of your use of either the standard or modified UEFI versions. It is an Instant Flash file update method. I have never used either of these UEFI versions myself. Notice that there are TWO UEFI versions available on this page. The first is one that is not provided directly by ASRock on this board's download page. The second version is the one apparently with the wake from Sleep fix. There is some instructions in the first post in the thread in the link below, number 5, that IMO does not make sense. http://www.overclock.net/t/1598165/nvme-bios-update-for-asrock-z77-extreme-4 |

Great! Did you need to install Windows again, or was the installation you originally did recognized with the other UEFI version? I tried it too, I used the Z77EXT42.90Q version, flashed perfectly with Instant Flash. Tried an experiment, put a 960 EVO from my Z270 GK6 PC, Windows 10 installation, into the Z77 Extreme4, using an M.2 to PCIe adapter card. ![]() With the P2.90M Beta UEFI version, after clearing the UEFI and configuring it for UEFI booting (CSM disabled), and restarting into the UEFI to set the UEFI options, I had nothing shown in the boot order. The Boot order option was not even shown in the Boot screen. The 960 EVO was recognized in the M.2 to PCIe adapter in System Browser. If the PC tried to start, it would just put me back into the UEFI. I then installed the 2.90Q version with Instant Flash. Configured UEFI booting and restarted. The 960 EVO was shown in System Browser, and I now had an entry in the Boot order called "Windows Disk", which is not the usual "Windows Boot Manager", but whatever. I let it boot, and sure enough it started Windows 10 fine. A Z270 board installation running on a Z77 board. I made sure not to connect the PC to my network, I did not want Windows update to destroy it. I wish ASRock would put the 2.90Q version in the Beta download area, it is better than 2.90M. |
