Updating BIOS doesn't automatically clear CMOS.

In fact, a good practice is to clear the CMOS before updating the BIOS.

You won't believe how much junk is left over from BIOS to BIOS, if you don't clear CMOS.

I had the latest intel ssd toolbox, tried to up the firmware, already had latest firmware, did an optimize, no change.

regarding slots, i tested both. the one closest to the cpu and the other one. with or without heatsink mnade no difference, max drive temps rarely reached 40 C. it's not overheating.

update.
i decided to nuke the drive in linux with dd, then reboot to windows and let it initialize and default format it and all.
It works fine now.. I can't say for sure what the problem was.

The same should have been achieved by the PSID revert, hence my suggestion.
