Hello, hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. I am putting together my first build in over 8yrs and I decided to try an AMD build. I put together the following build using PCpartpicker:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PJCL6s AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-core - CPU ASRock B450M Steel Legend Micro ATX AM4 - MB G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 - MEM Zotac Geforce GTX 1660 6GB - GPU EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W - PSU When putting this build together I kept getting a boot loop (lights and fans turn on for 15 seconds plus or minus over and over). I did all the basic build steps to fix a loop (moved memory around, reset Cmos, disassembled and reassembled build..etc). I even tried to use a Motherboard speaker but it appears this board doesn't have a hookup for them. So at a complete loss, I went on to ASRock's support page and found that ASRock B450 Steel Legend is more finicky with parts than pcpartpicker lets on. You have to buy specific model numbers for compatability. Even though PCpartpicker says my G-skill memory is compatible, looking at the following list of compatible memory that is not the case. https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450%20Steel%20Legend/index.asp#MemoryPR So I went out and bought new memory: DD4 Corsair 2400 16GB CMK32GX4M2A2400C14 SS 2/4 Plugged these bad boys in and I got the same loop, just a more expensive loop... Perplexed, I now went to look to see if my CPU is the issue. My CPU's part number is YD2600BBAFBBOX and it is not listed. The listed part number for a Ryzen 5 2600 is (YD2600BBM6IAF). :( https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450%20Steel%20Legend/index.asp#CPU So this is the point I am reaching out for help on the forums. 1) Am I correct with these part numbers that they are incompatible and PC Part Picker is incorrect in saying they are compatible? 2) If my CPU and MB are in fact incompatible, what would my most inexpensive way forward be? A new CPU or MB with the current parts I have? Recommendations on maybe a new board without so many restrictions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

Greetings future, I'm new on this forum. Best I can tell, no one has answered your query... is that right? I came across your question as I was having the same problem. I eventually realized that it was the way I installed the ram. This is the first time I've installed ddr4 ram (adata gammix 10). Looking closely at the seat of the ram (the adata ram above), it isn't perfectly flat; it's somewhat curved in a way that it rocks from end to end - it's kind of bowed out in the middle of the seat. This made seating it properly exceedingly difficult. Assuming the ram you have is compatible, I would suggest seating one stick only in the A2 slot. Be sure you can see what you're doing and seat it in very well. When I finally had one stick working I had the same difficulties with the second stick in slot B2. It would now start but the bios couldn't see anything in b2. I eventually got both sticks working by seating them in carefully with a fair amount of rocking force. I hope you have this sorted now. I didn't cross reference the ram you bought but I'd guess it'd work whether or not it's on the compatibility list. Cheers, karma |
