Since building/purchasing this machine last spring. It's been merrily running rings around all the other computers in the house. due to an ID-10-T error due to hypocaffeine levels I committed a pebcak error and wiped my hard drive.
Since I have to start over again anyway. I am investigating converting the machine to GPT provisioning in order to have as many partitions as I need for Win10 and Linux distro testing purposes. Thus far, the H270M Pro 4 fails to recognize the LiveUSB with the GPT version of Win10. I have no cd/dvd drive installed. Here is my last working specs on my build. $ inxi -Fz System: Host: antec Kernel: 4.13.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: N/A Distro: Peppermint Eight Machine: Mobo: ASRock model: H270M Pro4 Bios: American Megatrends v: P1.10 date: 11/14/2016 CPU: Quad core Intel Core i7-7700 (-HT-MCP-) cache: 8192 KB clock speeds: max: 4200 MHz 1: 3600 MHz 2: 3600 MHz 3: 3600 MHz 4: 3600 MHz 5: 3600 MHz 6: 3600 MHz 7: 3600 MHz 8: 3600 MHz Graphics: Card: Intel HD Graphics 630 Display Server: X.Org 1.19.5 drivers: (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Kabylake GT2 GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 17.0.2 Audio: Card Intel 200 Series PCH HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture v: k4.13.0-32-generic Network: Card: Intel Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V driver: e1000e IF: enp0s31f6 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter> Drives: HDD Total Size: 740.2GB (0.6% used) ID-1: /dev/nvme0n1 model: N/A size: 250.1GB ID-2: /dev/sda model: PNY_CS1311_240GB size: 240.1GB ID-3: /dev/sdb model: WDC_WD5000AACS size: 500.1GB Partition: ID-1: / size: 20G used: 4.0G (21%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/nvme0n1p2 ID-2: /home size: 208G used: 99M (1%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/nvme0n1p4 ID-3: /boot size: 1.6G used: 75M (6%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/nvme0n1p1 RAID: No RAID devices: /proc/mdstat, md_mod kernel module present Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 35.0C mobo: N/A Fan Speeds (in rpm): cpu: N/A Info: Processes: 227 Uptime: 11 min Memory: 601.2/31873.5MB Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 2.2.35 Has anybody successfully switched from MBR to GPT? I'm excited to start the process, but am not gonna rush and leap in, seeing as I have other working machines at the moment. I wanna do this right this time around and take advantage of some of the motherboard's capabilities that I haven't until now. many thanks for your help in my new journey, seanboy |

I have switched one older 2Tb drive from MBR to GPT to properly dual boot two OS and have special volumes related to each. I did wipe the drive so it was bare before changing from MBR to GPT. A note or two: Any HD above 2Tb in size must be GPT or you cannot use all of it, MBR is limited limited to 2Tb max. You do not need "secure boot" enabled in BIOS to use GPT disks.
