Hi all,

Just purchased an ASRack X470D4U, anticipating I was going to put this into a 2U rack mount. Not many coolers will fit in such a tight space, so I ordered a custom cooler. One problem - the backplate is glued onto the motherboard!! Not only am I wondering WHY ASRock would do something like this, but also how I can removed the glued on backplate. I cannot install this cooler with the stock backplate. Would anyone have any ideas about how to get this off without ruining the entire board?

And ASRock, your ASRack line is still intended for consumers. Please don't glue backplates onto motherboards, it doesn't make sense especially when the board will be used in tandem with parts that are guaranteed to not be OEM.

Really appreciate any help that can be provided!

dont know what cooler youve gotten but usually the backplate would work with whatever cooler you install on it and are you sure its adhesive not just thermal pads

I honestly wish it would fit the stock backplate but it doesn't. The threaded stand offs aren't large enough to fit the threading for the coolers screws.

I'm pretty sure they're not thermal pads, I see glue (or some kind of adhesive) sticking out of the sides of the backplate itself.

I'm wondering if going at it with low heat from a heat gun might be enough to loosen whatever is holding it to the board....

I've had a back plate with some shiny coating or plastic on it before that was slightly stuck on the motherboard but it was not glued. I was able to gently pulled it off.
