After a long and difficult journey, where my Linux system kept freezing and corrupting data, I discovered that the 10GBe Ethernet from Aquantia was the culprit. (I went through Motherboard, RAM, Power Supply, Cooler and disk!)
Motherboard X399 Taichi and variants. CPU Threadripper. The issue is that the NETWORK firmware (Not BIOS) is very old on these motherboards and my Linux Distro (Centos/RHEL) is using 2 year old drivers. I had to create and boot into Windows and update the firmware (I had downloaded it a while back, seems to no longer be available) and create a custom driver for Linux (more complicated than I like). However, my system has now been stable for a full week and no crazy freezes. Hope this help someone. |
