I see there are a lot of posts on this subject, but no real answers. I have pretty much the same issues, the USB ports both directly on MB and external on the case fail at random times. I have tried switching all the devices around and eliminating them to see which external device might be causing the issue. Computer is set up as follows:
AMD Threadripper 1950X 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor
CPU Cooler
Enermax Liqtech TR4 II 240 102.17 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard
ASRock X399 Taichi ATX sTR4 Motherboard
Memory
G.Skill Sniper X 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory
4 units equaling 128GB
Storage
Seagate Barracuda 3 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Debian LINUX
WD 1TB TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Windows 10
Storage
Western Digital Blue 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Times 2 drives
1 500GB SSD with Peppermint Linux
Video Card
ASRock Radeon RX 570 8 GB Phantom Gaming D Video Card
Case
DIYPC Skyline-07-R ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply
EVGA 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive
LG WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer
Mouse
Kensington Pro Fit Full-Size Mouse Wired Optical Mouse
Custom
Azio Mk Hue Black USB Backlit Mechanical Keyboard (Outemu Brown) (MK-HUE-BK)

ANY tips are appreciated. If needed I will get rid of this MB and try a different one, but I do not want to tear down this build.

Just a quick follow up. The issue is consistent with this MB regardless of what OS I use. 4 versions of Linux and Windows 10 all have the same issue. Are there any tips regarding whether to try a bios upgrade. I have not checked that to see if there is one. I will post if there is.
Thanks
John
