I recently got the FATAL1TY B450 Gaming ITX motherboard for my Ryzen 3400G. Booted up and everything seems to be working more or less. The only hiccup I ran into was the wifi was working initially, then dropped out.
While looking into BIOS fixes, I noticed that my motherboard came with BIOS version 3.7. On the support page for my motherboard, ASRock says "*ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU is being used on your system." I was wondering, would it be better for me to roll back to BIOS Ver 3.4, since I am using a 3400G (which from my understanding is under the Raven umbrella)? (Not specifically looking for fixes on the wifi issue, just wondering about general performance) Thanks for any advice! |

""*ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU is being used on your system." "
This line is literally the biggest crock of bull***tI have ever seen on a manufacturer's website. AMD, the ones who put out the AGESA(/Microcode) and its associated modules (SMU etc) literally point out that there are fix's, improvements, security fix's and more that apply to ALL Zen generations in the latest releases (to include the 4.10 release for your board). You will not find this same nonsense message on another motherboard manufacturer's website unless its a firmware split for dropping supported CPU's. I have directly messaged AMD and they agree but cannot control ASRock. The ONLY reason NOT to upgrade to the latest BIOS would be because ASRock BROKE something in which case it impacts even Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000 non G aka the latest), IE there are some NASTY reports on breaking PCIe lane assignments on some boards (probably due to lack of testing) where a customer with 2 M.2 drives noticed they where running in x2/x2 instead of x4/x4 lane assignments. ANNNYYWAYYYY OUTSIDE OF THAT NONSENSE With regards to your problem I would ask the following: 1: Is this a fresh windows install of the latest release (2004) 2: Did you use the drivers from AMD's website for Chipset at least, graphics if you run the integrated or an AMD dedicated 3: Did you use the drivers from Intel's website for the Wireless/Bluetooth* 4: If the above 2 have the answer of NO and you used the drivers included on the disk or on the website, there is 99% of the time your issue, motherboard manufacturers hardly EVER update drivers (so not just ASRock on this one), so DO NOT USE THEM! *there was literally a span of 2 years where Intel's drivers literally ate s**t and died when used with any AMD chipset/cpu combo for WiFi 6 adapters Feel free to reply, and myself or others will be happy to help, I sadly dont have this specific board but I have a few B350 and B450 ASRock boards running with 3400G or higher. |

I run the B350 version and had issues with the WiFi using ASRock's drivers at the time .. I went to Intels website and downloaded and installed drivers directly from them and that cured my woes ...
I always run the latest BIOS regardless of CPU type.. unless there are stability issues like the latest BIOS for my x570 Steel Legend. Alternatively .. you can replace that WiFi card on you motherboard if drivers direct from Intel don't sort out your issues. soo ..basically everything that Hammerest already mentioned ![]() |

Thanks for the replies.
To answer your questions Hammerfest: 1. Yeah, a fresh Windows install made using their media creation tool 2. I used the drivers on Asrocks's page, although good point and I should probably use the ones straight from AMD's website 3. Yes, I updated my wifi driver direct from Intel's website 4. Good advice, I'll give the AMD ones a go All in all though, it's currently working great so there's nothing to complain about specifically. Did some tests and am getting the results I was expecting (and more even). I was just wondering in general (due to that weird BIOS warning) if there would be any advantage to reverting to an older version. So a happy ending for now (: In case anyone is interested, as for the wifi issue, there are a few missing details. I swapped out the wifi card that came with the FATAL1TY B450 ITX with an Intel AC 9260 card while putting the build together. Here's the weird part: Build went flawlessly, including installing windows. Booted up perfectly on the first go and everything was working (including wifi). I went on my merry way and started installing drivers. But once I installed the intel wifi driver, my internet broke. Spent the next 5 hours uninstalling / reinstalling various versions of the intel driver to no luck (intel's version, the one from Asrock, the one Windows recommends, etc). Did a full format, reset the BIOS, reinstalled windows and the wifi was still borked. Again tried uninstalling / reinstalling the driver in various ways to try and get it working again. It would sometimes detect networks, but the second I tried to connect it would drop out and I would get a device error. After a night of no success I gave up and went to bed. The next morning I booted up and everything was working fine, and still is. I have no idea what happened, but I'll take it. Maybe the wifi card itself somehow wasn't making a good connection, and I managed to re-seat it while moving things around the next day, but who knows. tldr; the intel drivers broke my wifi, tried every ver driver I could find to fix it to no avail, eventually let it sit overnight and now it works. Drivers being used are Intel Drivers 21.90.3.2 on Windows 10 Pro version 2004 (Build 19041.388) |
