Unable to set UEFI BIOS resolution at 1920x1080 |

Hi!
My setup is: 1. Motherboard: ASRock X670E Taichi. 2. CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X. 3. Video Card: Gigabyte RTX 3080 Vision OC. 4. Monitor: ViewSonic VP2768-4K (27", 3840x2160p, 10-bpc) Annoyance: The resolution of the UEFI/BIOS menu is 1024x768. The BIOS menu offers 2 options: 1. "Disabled" = 1024x768 2. "Auto" = 1920x1080. However, whether I choose "Auto" or "Disabled", the resolution remains the same, at 1024x768. I've connected the monitor to the video card, both, through a DP 1.4 cable & an HDMI 2.1 cable. No change! I've taken out my video card & connected the monitor directly to the HDMI port of my motherboard, because the CPU has an iGPU. No change! I have set "Disabled" & restarted PC. No change! Then set "Auto" & restarted the PC. No change! A.I. tells me something about the GOP driver which locks my UEFI menu at that low resolution. ANY IDEAS ??? Edited by NDRE28 - 30 Sep 2025 at 11:57am |

I have run into this myself a few times. In my case I had to try all the different
display outputs on my system until I found the one that outputted in 1080p. Most cards have a default output that will be favored for 1080p output in the UEFI. If memory serves my last run in with this was resolved by using "output 0" on my GPU. It should be listed in your GPU's documentation. On one occasion I was unable to correct the issue at all until I used a different display cable (HDMI). DP has always worked for me though regardless of which output I use. Hope this helps. |

I have tried all of my DP & HDMI ports of my video card, but the issue is still there! Video card's ports revisions are: DP 1.4 & HDMI 2.0. Monitor's ports revisions are: DP 1.2 & HDMI 1.4. Cables used: DP 1.4 & HDMI 2.1. Note 1: I am on the latest firmware versions of my motherboard, monitor & video card. Note 2: Connecting the monitor to the iGPU, through the HDMI port of the motherboard, doesn't solve the issue! Final thoughts: ChatGPT says that the firmware of my GPU has a "GOP driver" that locks the firmware resolution to 1024x768. Changing the GPU (possibly with an AMD one) might solve the issue. I've wrote to the ASRock Support Team about the low resolution in the UEFI menu, issue. Their reply to me was this: "Hi, Thank you for your email. I'm afraid it is hard to solve this problem. Because under BIOS UEFI, GPU GOP driver resolution support is limited. Mostly, your GPU GOP driver will not report to our BIOS that it can support FHD. This is why our BIOS will only provide 1024x768. All the best ASRock TSD" I have replied to their response by saying that it's weird that the issue remains, even when using the CPUs iGPU, by connecting the monitor directly to the HDMI port of the motherboard. ASRock's 2nd reply: "Hi, Thank you for your email. iGPU also has its own GOP driver under BIOS. So it meets the similar behavior as dGPU. All the best ASRock TSD" After receiving their response, I've asked them back if buying a newer video card (RX 9070 XT or RTX 5080) would solve the issue. Let's see if they respond again! |

ASRock Support Team responded again. Their 3rd response: "Hi, Thank you for your reply This problem is related to the GPU and monitor compatibility. We are hard to guarantee that?switching the GPU can solve this behavior. All the best ASRock TSD" So, here we have it. No guarantees, at all, even with the newest generations of video cards! |
