    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 at 9:53am
Hello

I have the possibility to get a 3000 CPU relatively cheap so I am tempted to upgrade from my 1500X current one.

2 things I would like to clarify so looking for assistance.

I am currently on BIOS 5.40 on my B350 PRO4 MB and planning to upgrade to 5.80 which is the 1st one on ASROCK support to capture 3000series CPU right?

Then I see these 2 comments there

1) VGA drivers

I ahve a VEGA 64 GPU, do I need to install this VGA driver anyway, is that really a must?

* Please install "AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.50.16.01_WHQL" or a later version before updating to this BIOS.
** If you updated the BIOS before updating the AMD all in one driver, please refer to the Display recovery SOP to recover your system.

2) BIOS flash back to older version

Is there a way to flashback to before 5.80 BIOS if for example I decide to sell my MB and 1500X as 2nd hand combo? It says here it can not be reverted but I found that MSI or ASUS BIOS downgrade can be done with some specific tool, is such tool not available for ASROCK?

*** If the current BIOS version is older than P5.40, please update BIOS to P5.40(PinnaclePI-AM4_1.0.0.6) before updating this version.
**** User will not able to flash previous BIOS once upgrading to this BIOS version.

Thanks so much

Olivier

just have latest chipset drivers installed from AMD.com before you upgrade your BIOS. Even though ASRock says it's "not recommeded" .. Everything should run just fine with latest bios and your 1500x. Be sure to update your video cards drivers too at some point if you haven't already.

With 3000 series, you'll be able to run your memory above and beyond it's rated speed more than likely.

My daughter has the ASRock B350 Fatal1ty Gaming ITX/ac ..initially had the 2200g and had to run her 2 x 16gb 3000mhz sticks at 2866mhz .. that carried over to upgrading her to a 2700x paired with a GTX 1060 3GB .. upgraded her to a 3600x and now that same memory does 3200mhz (got her an RX 570 4GB too)

thanks for your reply.

I am not too much concerned by the process of upgrading the BIOS and get my RAM to reach its 3200Mhz frequency at least, although its not too bad that its running at 3133Mhz already today.

my question was more if say in 6 months I want to sell my PRO4 MB, I will certainly bundle it with the 1500X and would like to bring back BIOS to 5.40 where ASROCK says its not possible, other vendors MB can do that.Thats really my question about BIOS

Why sell yourself short .. you bought and paid for 3200mhz RAM .. why wouldn't you want your product to run at least at it's rated speed? 3600mhz is kind of the sweet spot for Ryzen ... but I digress.

You can run your own tests .. when you flash the BIOS to accommodate your new 3000 series cpu .. reboot and test out your 1500x on your new bios before switching processors .. then you can decide if rolling back the BIOS version is needed or not and then go from there

kind of defeat what I am trying to get as an advice over here if I have to run this and found out by myself afterwards that there is Zero possibility to revert back the BIOS on my MB and run the 1500X as it used to be.

anybody who could share some helpful thoughts here?

My 3600 arriving today later in the evening i decide to take the eisk and upgrade to 5.80 bios

I had some issue to post and with display output not working but after some fiddling it works now

The PC with 1500x and Ram OCed is fine as prior BIOS upgrade thats a big relief if i want to sell the combo to a new owner
