Greetings
I have a Z390 Taichi with RTX 2060 i59600K. I boot off a fully encrypted 2tb WD caviar black which is on the fly encryption. For this to work, I need CSM (compatibility support module) enabled and legacy MBR boot. It works perfectly and has done since I set up the rig in 2018. I'm now going to upgrade to Z690 Taichi i712600K booting off the same MBR fully encrypted OTFE Caviar Black 2TB. I'm also going to upgrade the RTX2060 to a RTX3070Ti. It's an expensive proposition so I need to make sure the rig will work. I've looked at the manual for the Z690 and it has the CSM which therefore should work in MBR/legacy boot mode. It does say I need a GPU which has legacy vbios but I'm using a 2060 now and that works, so stepping up to a 3070ti should work also. Questions. Is there any danger here that CSM on the Z690 won't work as does the module on my existing Z390? Also, will the 3070ti also have legacy capability - ie vbios as this is necessary for the CSM to work? ANyone know the answers before I outlay several thousand $$$ on the rig? I want to stay with Taichi as my current 390 is seriously stable and I have had Asrock since they started out over a decade ago. |

Dear Thang,
Intel (and also AMD) on the new chipsets, do not support legacy mode anymore. So CSM should be default set to disabled. When you set it to enabled, and set the Launch Storage OpROM Policy to legacy, it might work. But decrypt the drive, before putting it in the new system. |

Hello,
I´ve very similar question towards CSM mode BIOS compatibility as the first poster :-) I´ve Asrock X1711 "industrial" board (LGA1200 socket) and am planning to buy more recent Asrock IMB-X1712 industrial board. For me and my specific needs a legacy BIOS CSM mode is must-have because of using some older expensive PCI sound cards (RME, ESI), older Areca controllers (ARC-120x), video capture card and sometimes even Win7+Win8.1... It seems, that Asrock is one among very few whose support of CSM legacy mode (UEFI class 2) still doesn´t vanish. My question is towards IMB-X1712 board - does it still have CSM mode in BIOS (even if disabled as default) ? Up to now i´ve found only these newer board with CSM support: Asrocks consumer ones, but with questions towards industrial ones, Asus Pro WS X570-ACE, Supermicro X12SAE-5 (with some questions)... I don´t care about boards with AMD chips like Asrock B550M Pro4 (AM4) still with CSM support. I will appreciate any more detailed infos or at least thoughts. With regards, V.B. |
