Z890 Pro RS WiFi no boot

   Hello. I am putting together a new build on an ASRock Z890 Pro RS WiFi. Unfortunately it will not post. At first I thought I just needed to update the BIOS to get the board to recognize the CPU, but even after trying to update the BIOS using the Flashback feature I get the same results. 

Board shipped with BIOS 1.39. I attempted to flash 3.11 to it.

Other components:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF
Cooler: Montech 240 AIO
RAM: Team T-Force Delta RGB(2 x 16GB) DDR5 6400 (PC5 51200)
GPU: EVGA RTX 3060 Ti 8GB
Boot drive(s): I?�ve tried it with a MSI NVMe and a boot disk flash drive. It never gets to this point in the startup. 

When attempting to boot, fans/everything-RGB fires up, AIO pump is on, no boot. I have tried multiple configurations. Here are the diagnostic LED indicators for each:

1) All components installed: 
VGA lit
BOOT lit

2) All components, but only one stick of RAM (in A2):
VGA lit
BOOT lit

3) Just CPU and one stick of RAM:
VGA lit
BOOT lit

4) Just CPU
DRAM lit
VGA lit
BOOT lit

I think the chipset was dead on arrival, but I wanted  to see if anyone has any other ideas/things to try.

Any advice?

	Did the flash take? I don't know what it should look like but I believe there is some kind of indication as to whether it is working or not, it should be in your user manual. In addition, try leaving the system powered on for 20 mins or so. Sometimes the first POST after a BIOS flash/new build can take a while. My current system took about 15 mins to POST on first boot, I was concerned something had broken during assembly. Good luck.

	Thanks for the reply. Since it never gets to the point of giving me video output, the only indication of a successful flash is the blinking LED on the back of the motherboard (I used the Flashback feature). The pattern of blinks from the Flashback LED indicates it was flashed successfully, but I?�m always leery of BIOS flashes. I also thought it might take a while on the first boot, but if I leave it on, it eventually just cycles through repeated attempts at a POST, hanging every time. Return for refund?

	It's difficult to say. Unfortunately the motherboard isn't the only consideration. It's become quite common to get a DOA CPU these days too and that could also easily account for the symptoms. I guess depending on how long you have in your return window you can try a return and stipulate you need the latest BIOS on the replacement. If that still doesn't work then return the CPU for replacement too. Otherwise, return both and start fresh without risking being wrong about the culprit. Generally they will just test the components, if working they will return them to you, otherwise they will send you a known good replacement. This will be handled by your place of purchase.

	I would think if the CPU were DOA the system would hang even sooner with the CPU LED lit, and never get to the point of lighting up the VGA or BOOT indicators. I?�ve never had an ASRock board before though, so that?�s just my guess/expectation for a bad CPU. I could be 100% wrong. It?�s looking like I?�m at the point where I need to go ahead and start a return with Newegg and see where it goes. Thanks, Xaltar. I?�ll still monitor this thread for a while.

	Good luck. If this were not a new system I could suggest other troubleshooting steps but when a system is "fresh out the box" I tend to prefer returning anything that doesn't work right away. That said, if your PSU is under powered, old or defective it could be causing the GPU to fail to initialize correctly. In addition you may want to check to make sure you have the correct PCIe power cables hooked up to the GPU. The wrong ones could cause the same issue (VGA staying lit). The boot LED will not go out until the VGA one does so that isn't an issue.

	Just to give this a conclusion, I moved everything to a different board and it POSTs and boots just fine.Looks like it was the board after all.
