Hello everyone, I want to ask about BIOS update for ASRock B550M-HDV.

Yesterday I bought ASRock B550M-HDV for replacing my old motherboard that has Ryzen 5 3400G in it. The motherboard BIOS version is P3.30 and it works well with my Ryzen 5 3400G.

According to the BIOS list, ASRock B550M-HDV latest BIOS is P3.90. Is it safe to update my ASRock B550M-HDV BIOS to the latest if I'm using Ryzen 5 3400G? I'm afraid if my PC won't boot after the update.

Thanks everyone.

You shouldn't have any problem updating but, as I always say, if your system is
working to your satisfaction then why bother updating? Unless there is a specific
reason to update I always advise not to. The chances of something going wrong may
be small but why take a risk when you don't need to?

I would just stick with 3.30 if it's working well. You aren't missing out on anything
by not updating.

You?™re absolutely right, normally ?œif it?™s not broken, don?™t fix it??is a good rule.

But in my case I decided to try updating anyway ??and just wanted to share my result.

I updated my ASRock B550M-HDV from P3.30 to P3.90 while using a Ryzen 5 3400G, and thankfully everything went smoothly. The system booted normally, no compatibility issues at all.

What surprised me is that performance actually improved. Before updating, some of my games felt like they had occasional micro-stutters. After updating to P3.90, gameplay feels noticeably smoother and more stable.

On BIOS P3.30:
- CPU OC can't be higher than 3.9 GHz
- iGPU OC from 1400 MHz ??1500 MHz would freeze when booting into Windows
- It was very sensitive and unstable when tuning the GFX clock

After updating to BIOS P3.90:
- CPU OC now can run at 4.0 GHz @1.35v
- iGPU can now run at 1500 MHz
- Stable with 1.150V GFX voltage
- No freezing during Windows boot
- System feels smoother overall (less micro-stutter in competitive games)

So in my case, the newer BIOS clearly improved stability and overclocking behavior ??especially for the iGPU. It seems like memory training / AGESA optimizations in the newer version made a real difference for Picasso APUs.

So yes ??while I agree updating isn?™t always necessary, in my situation it turned out to be beneficial.

Thanks again for the advice??!

That is great news. It sounds like the AGESA update improved compatibility with
your CPU and RAM combo. That is pretty much the only time you see performance
uplift from an update.

Enjoy
