Posted: 12 hours 14 minutes ago at 11:55pm
Hi all, I was just looking at the BIOS updates and see a new one and it's not a beta, BIOS 10.50. But I have been reading over the last couple of years that any BIOS that is 10.xx has issues and you can brick your board, reports on here and on Reddit. Can I update from BIOS 5.10 to 10.50 without issue? And is there anyone who updated recently to BIOS 10.50? The thing is I have secure boot off since 2018, and never had any issues. I'm using Windows 11 LTSC IoT, it's great for gaming and I don't play games that require secure boot or TPM. I guess going forward I can just leave secure boot off without any issues?

The only point of 10.50 is secure boot keys so if you are not using them and don't
feel comfortable updating then you don't need to bother with it. If you find you
need it at some point you can always update then. As far as I am aware 10.50 will
be based on the previous latest BIOS so any issues that exist there will likely
exist on 10.50 too.

FWIW I haven't seen many complaints about 10.XX, on here or redit. There is one
other user currently having issues getting 10.50 to POST on their setup however.
They are running a 5700x. It may be worth seeing how their situation plays out.

I had no issues updating to 10.50 on my AM4 boards:
X370 Taichi
X370 Gaming X
X570 Taichi
X570 Pro 4

I went ahead and updated them all when the new BIOSes dropped. The updates all
went without a hitch. The boards had been sitting on a shelf for a while as I
only have a Ryzen 5 1400 and Ryzen 5 3600 left in my parts bin. The 3600 has
been fine in the X370 Taichi for a few weeks now in my daughter's PC. She uses
it for graphic design and light gaming.

Thanks for the reply. After reading and since I don't have secure boot enabled and don't plan on enabling it, I think the safe thing is to just stay on 5.10.
If they are based on the previous 10.xx BIOS' I won't touch 10.50. This was from Reddit: "X470 Taichi Dead after BIOS Update?" https://www.reddit.com/r/ASRock/comments/1b26sd4/x470_taichi_dead_after_bios_update/#:~:text=BIOS%20Update%20Issue:%20Updating%20the%20ASRock%20X470,can%20result%20in%20the%20motherboard%20being%20bricked.

Your updates went fine on your 4 boards with 10.50, but I think I will stay put.

In your situation I would do the same, I have always advocated for "if it works,
leave it be". One of my boards was still on BIOS 1.01, I updated it purely for
the CPU support given first gen Ryzen isn't "officially" supported anymore.
