hello. I'm not able to make a new topic so I have to ask question here.

I've purchased Ryzen 7 5700x to replace my old Ryzen 7 2700x. My mobo is AsRock Phantom Gaming 4.

I've got newest bios installed (used InstaFlash) the simple version of upgrade - upgraded it using the current CPU I have (2700x). I've read some years ago someone had problem running new CPU because you need to reupdate the bios using a different more complicated method. Does this still apply to 5.80 version of bios from 2026? Do I have to reupdate the bios in order to be able to run 5700x after swapping from 2700x?

I am afraid I am not sure, you can look at this thread:
https://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=27091&PN=2&title=x570-phantom-gaming-4

It's from 2023 however. I don't have similar hardware of my own to test with.
Hopefully another forum member can help, if not, you can open a support ticket
and ask ASRock directly here:

Let us know how the upgrade goes.

Ty for info. I've contacted support and they've told me that I need to use the workaround method to update bios.

I encountered next problem so far - I've done everything according to the bios update guide but when I boot ther UEFI flash device it doesn't recognize the USB flash drive files - it shows other HDD's and SSD's ive got connected but the message says the update rom file has not been found.

fs0:

then I dir it - it doesnt show any files.

then i dir other drives - I can see the file and directory list.

Can I actually put the rom file and this biosupdate.nsh file on another drive and try to run it from the other drives it detects? Or it has to be 100% the connected USB flash?

You can put it on a drive that is detected yes, it just takes a lot longer for
the updater to search the drive contents for the ROM. Make sure your flash drive
is formatted as FAT32 and that your files have been extracted from the .zip file.
I am sure you have already done so but on the off chance you missed a step I have
to mention it.

I have updated my BIOS off my SSD in the past when I couldn't find a working flash
drive so it does work.

Good luck

Yes this is kinda weird, because I boot up the EFI command line from the fat32 formatted Flashdrive (16GB Sandisk) and when i use "dir" command to dir fs0, fs1, fs2 etc etc. I get list of files from these drives but by some reason it doesn't detect the flashdrive which it booted from lol. So Yes I'll just put the files and try to run the command from the drive it detects. Hope it works.

Update - I'm on 5700x now, works like a charm. Ty for help!

I had to use a different command fsA: was my external USB drive (I used two flashdrives but I figured out I had to use map command to list all the drive numbers and letters and it turned out I could list files from the connected flashdrive. It didn't want to read these files from SSD (it had NTFS system so I guess that was the problem). But launching it from fat32 worked fine. Whole process passed 100%
