Check if it's set to AHCI, not RAID.

reply from tech support also gave me the spec sheet, however they prefaced it with ----   Hello,
Please have your M2_1 slot attach with Samsung 970 nvme only.
M2_2 slot for SATA M.2 ( 860 evo).
M2_3 slot for Samsung 970 and Samsung 860 either.
......from 'eric', a very busy 'guy'... so you can see why i was off on this one..    860 is now in m2_3 and recognized..... thanks one and all... (certainly wish i could get some actual information from support; last time i asked about a sata issue i was told there was no sata info in bios and then given several pages of information that never mentioned sata and ended with telling me that now i could install my os after i attached the ide cable to the hard drive and applied the correct jumpers for master and slave.... i'd say that 'help' is more than a bit out dated....

There are too much different boards with too much differences, even for the support...

Looking to the spec is the first thing to start.
Something which can be claryfied withing 15 seconds without the help either from the support or a forum.

Have fun and enjoy your x570 taichi

well, have to say that i pretty much do expect support to be supportive, which means they should be the ones who know their products best; all of them.. i buy a product which i believe will fit my needs; i don't know everything about it beforehand.. i said that i had missed the mark on seeing the sata/pcie difference and thank you to all for their help.. the chiding isn't necessary as i'm already aware of the accuracy of hindsight.. and there aren't too many instances in life where 15 seconds is all one needs to understand.. i ran a forum for several years and always took it that i was involved in it to pass my knowledge to others not to deprecate them for their lack of it.. you've helped me in the past 'ray62' and i thank you for that.. (i don't think i'm off too much on expecting support to provide something that has the word 'sata' in it when asking a question about sata.. the prepared material sent me was ten years outdated.. after my fifth board now from asrock i'll see if there will be a sixth or not)

@riido:
Sorry, i didn't want to chide you, i just saw it the funny way.
The manuals are made for clarification, but even the support obviously was confused.
And it doesn't matter how much experience we have, there is so much diversity regarding technical details that we all are stumbling every now and then.

I wish you a nice weekend.
