Building a new system with a Z390 and Core i5 9500K. So far I have no post screen, no bios screen, no video / display out, no other indication of any kind. When I power up, I get a red 'breathing' (fade in / fade out) LED on the motherboard and after a few seconds, it will auto power cycle and repeat once or twice, then seems the MOBO stays on with the red breathing leds, but no video out / bios screen.

I've tried a long list of troubleshooting and come up empty. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/perform-these-steps-before-posting-about-post-boot-no-video-problems.1285536/

The only error I can 'force' is removing both sticks of ram which gives a 3-beep code (no / bad RAM?) With either stick in either slot the result is the same no post / no beep as listed above.

The only possible thing I've come up with is my ram isn't specifically listed on the QVL list for this mobo - https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z390%20Phantom%20Gaming-ITXac/index.asp#Memory

I have two sticks of Patriot Viper PVS416G386C8K (3866 MHz ram)

Though both slower and faster ram are on the QVL.

4000MHz

Is the RAM this critical that it HAS to specifically be listed on the QVL? Is there any way to force a 'fail safe' boot? Even if the ram is forced to a slightly slower freq setting?

Thanks for any help you can offer!!

Solved -

Looks like this was a combination of three factors:

1) The motherboard BIOS default appears to be 'no beep' on booting, so if the boot is successful you actually hear nothing - and without video, it seems nothing is happening.

2) The HDMI video port does not initially output any video - so my monitor hooked to HDMI shows 'NO SIGNAL'

3) My monitor hooked to the display port was initially looking for an analog signal, not digital and/or wasn't scanning fast enough to 'wake up' when the PC booted. Once I forced the monitor to digital input (it was working on display port with the old setup ?!?!), I was able to successfully catch the boot screen and start my OS install process.

Nice. Exact same issue for me right now. Core I5-9600K w/ PVS416G360C7K memory as well. I think the monitor is doing the same thing. Looks for analog signal after it doesn't register a digital signal right off the bat.

I'll let you know how it come outs when I deal with the monitor. Thanks for posting your solution.

Figured it out. RAM not seated. I'm always cautious seating RAM and I didn't do a good job of getting it in the slots. Seated the RAM right and everything is good. Well, except for the repurposed SSD I was trying to use. Should've bought a new one to begin with.
