Hi all,
during my last cleanup session I successfully destroyed my AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and want to use the chance to upgrade to 7 5800x. Unfortunately I have to update BIOS version from 2.5 to 7.2 and therefore I need a CPU. My plan was to buy one temporally. Which one would you recommend? Any better and faster way would be also very much appriciated. Best regards radi Setup: ASRock AB350AB Pro4 P2.50 AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (most probably broken, Windows and USB stick starts shortly and then computer restarts) AMD Ryzen 7 5800X --> should be bought if I manage the update to P7.20 |

Hm, I don't know.
I was asuming it, as only the CPU got damaged. But I guess also for that test I need a CPU. So only chance is buying e.g. something like that AMD Ryzen 3 1200 (4x 3,1GHz) YD1200BBM4KAE Sockel AM4 test and update bios, right? Thanks for your help! |

Buying a CPU, to actually USE IT and to RETURN IT, is absolutely not fair to the shop as well as AMD.
AMD used to have a program to lend you an older CPU, so you can update BIOS. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/warranty-information/rma-bktc No idea if it's still in effect. |

Hi eccential,
yes that is clear that I even did not thought that this could be the interpretation. The AMD program has some high borders as I read and is quite slow. Therefore I decided to buy a used AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and will sell it afterwards again. Anyway thanks a lot for the hint, I 100% agree with your moral thoughts! Have a good day radi |
