new build

z170 extreme7+

i7 6700 4.0ghz
g.skill ddr4 3000 16gbx4
corsair h115i
toshiba p300 5tb x2
gigabyte gtx 1080 xtreme

won't post, no video signal, no beep.  Have tried with both gigabyte video card and onboard video, but no signal.  Monitor works fine with other system.

Dr. Debug usually stops on 99 (pcie) even when no PCIE card installed.  Sometimes resets on its own from this position.

Have tried changing BIOS A/B.  Also tried clearing cmos.

Also tried connecting monitor with display port and HDMI.  Neither shows a signal.

Bad board?  Short?

What else?

If you've never had a successful POST yet, and have never been into the UEFI/BIOS, the POST beep option is disabled by default. Also, you must install your own POST beep speaker or no POST beeps.

You listed your memory as, "g.skill ddr4 3000 16gbx4". Is that four, 16GB DIMMs, 64GB of memory? Or four 4GB DIMMs, for 16GB?

Please post the full model number of your memory, and the actual capacity. You might have a memory compatibility problem.

Also, if the memory is not seated correctly in the DIMM slots, or not working due to compatibility or other problem, the memory needed by a PCIe device will not be available, and cause the PCIe device to fail to start.

Try using the Intel integrated graphics until you successfully POST. After all the changes in video source, remove the video card, and clear the UEFI/BIOS before trying again.

No PSU listed, sorry but I must ask if the 4/8 pin CPU power cable is connected to the CPU power connector at the top of the board. The CPU won't work without that cable connected.

Did you install the Z170 Extreme7+ in a PC case you used for another PC? Meaning any mother board standoffs in the wrong location, and causing a short?

Which SATA ports are you using for your HDDs? Intel or ASMedia?

I got it to post outside the case.

Then replaced in case.  It must have been a short from a standoff or something.

Trying to install windows 10 now.

Will update later.

Thanks for the help!  I may need more help later.
