Hello. Z170 OCF do provide 4 extra SATA-III ports by AsMedia chip. It is incompatible with HGST HUS726060ALE614 (5589 Gb). Not sure to point out a driver issue. Simply put, i have three of those 6060s in Raid-0 under Win8.1, all smarts are still okay and clean, but if any one of the three being plugged to asmedia ports, the array fails after some time. The disk subsystem hangs so much, responding to reset only. Mean time to catch a hang from boot while doing IO may differ. I tried three times to replug them differently, while blaming on possible drive degradation, but again by just pluggin all drives into chipset sata's, got no problem. But - pair of HGST HUS724040ALA640 (3726 Gb), if plugged to those extra, do ok. Bootable SSD of 256 Gb works okay in either. I've had this before once and resolved to chipset sata's, and this time again it seems like the problem, which may arise elsewhere, regarding the chip and all brand new motherboards, equipped by it. |

Dear SVG4K,
Thank you for choosing ASRock.
Z170 OC Formula has 6 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors
by Intel® Z170, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10, Intel® Rapid
Storage Technology 14 and Intel® Smart Response Technology), NCQ, AHCI and Hot
Plug, and 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors by ASMedia ASM1061, support NCQ, AHCI
and Hot Plug. The ASMedia SATA port does not support RAID mode. If you have built a RAID array, and want to
replace the HDD, please connect to the Intel SATA port.
Thank you! Yours truly, ASRock TSD |

Hello, ASRock TSD.
Actually the Raid i mentioned is created via software under Windows (Dynamic, striped). Chipset/1061 SATAs are unable to detect actual file system on multiple drives, except, maybe, the simultaneous access with similar activity. And it actually works, it may be half an hour of seamless HDD IO, until the hang occurs. Also, another one dynamic windows RAID-0 made of three 4Tb drives works via 1061, without issue. So the reply was pointing out to a BIOS raids, if any.
