Ya well got my 970A-G/3.1 and a brand new 960 EVO NVME installed last night and they both worked perfectly right outta the box! Didn't even have to make any BIOS changes! It recognized it as the only drive in the system and set it up accordingly all by itself :-)

And it performs OUTSTANDING!!! Passmark scored it in the 96th percentile!

Way to go ASROCK!!! You really have your sh*t together!!

but bios is old and may not support it (nvme driver)
It is possible to connect an M.2 or PCIe SSD to an older PC with UEFI, but you will find that these wont be bootable. Windows installer will warn you that you cannot boot from the drive you may be attempting to install from, or a cloned OS will not appear in the boot menu. This is because there are a few modules that are missing in older UEFI's and manufacturers are not willing to update large ranges of motherboards just for a couple of SSD's (this could also be seen as planned obsolescence).

so if u dont want to add missing modules to your efi bios on your own, then u may end up with havin it as a steam library drive

But this is what it says on the Asrock page:

"1 x M.2_SSD (NGFF) Socket 3, supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen2 x4 (20 Gb/s)"

The 960 EVO is an M 2280

Hmm...

as far as it says, it may not be compatible

minimum system requirements:
mainboard: Intel Haswell Refresh or later client chipset based mainboard with an unallocated M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 lane connector

amd got gen3 with ryzen

Trying to find out if a 250 GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 will work as a bootable drive for Windows 10 on an ASROCK 970A-G/3.1.

Been looking everywhere and can't seem to get a straight answer.

Thanks!
